Does seem weird for the NFL to even comment on such a thing when holding is rampant on practically every pass play run today.

Just some PR to try to knock down some of the conspiracy theories out there, I'd bet.

Yep, we probably don't hear of this if the VP of officiating dining on the team bus; 1, doesn't happen, and 2, isn't being recycled all over the web.

Well let me throw this into the conspiracy pot... I think all of this talk is a set up against the Cowboys when they head up to Green Bay. You want to talk about home cooking...? You going to see plenty of it up in Green Bay. And when Cowboys' fans complain about it.... they going to point to the Lions' game. The fix s in I tell you.

I thought holding qualified as turning the defender's shoulders?

Leary was no longer blocking at that point. he was using one arm to impede Suh's path to Romo.

tugging on a WR's jersey from behind, which slows him down but doesn't "turn his shoulders," is still holding

Dude. We've gotten great calls all year long. We should be the last ones to complain about officiating this year.

Do you really think the league hates its most popular team?

You don't block WRs though.

I should have been more clear with my query.

so what? the point is that "turning the shoulders" is not necessary to draw a flag for holding a defensive lineman or any other player

Watch Witten when he's blocking. He'll have a hold of the guy's pads, but quickly releases his grip as soon as the guy starts to turn his body.

You're allowed much more contact blocking a Dlineman though. There's no 5-yard rule for DL.

Leary wasn't blocking; he was holding on for dear life with one arm. I love how obvious penalties are no longer obvious when Dallas commits them.

This whole debate is retarded. Difference between the two teams?

Terrance Williams gets called for OPI, backs the offense up into 3rd and long. Next play 76 yard TD.

Detroit gets hosed(with a lead) on that PI, 4th and 1, punt. Still had a lead, the refs didn't ask the scoreboard operator to change the score.

Good teams overcome bad situations. Detroit wasn't good enough to beat Dallas.

I've heard the rule explained numerous times on telecasts. I've even given you an example to illustrate said rule.

Strange how dbair just loves to call the Steelers the Stealers because they got a few questionable calls, while at the same time lacks the credibility to admit that we may have stolen a game here ourselves.

from the NFL rule-book:

Note: Pass blocking: Hand(s) thrust forward that slip outside the body of the defender will be legal if blocker immediately worked to bring them back inside. Hand(s) or arm(s) that encircle a defender—i.e., hook an opponent—are to be considered illegal and officials are to call a foul for holding.

guess I was wrong then. I swear I've heard it explained on telecasts about the shoulders.
