Former NFL general manager and current analyst Michael Lombardi joined the G-Bag Nation on KRLD-FM 105.3 The Fan. Here are some highlights.

On what Atlanta did to Green Bay that Dallas failed to

Michael Lombardi: I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall of the Jones compound on Sunday afternoon, halftime of that game, when he was watching the Falcons just destroy the Packers. Ultimately, that's what the Cowboys should have been able to do to the Packers. They were like the fat kid going into the candy store. They wanted to eat all the candy instead of just focusing on what it's going to take to win the game. They needed to get control of the game. They needed to understand that if you're gonna play a a shootout with Aaron Rodgers, you're probably going to lose. When you don't understand from the beginning of the game what style you have to play in the game to win, you're gonna eventually lose. Dallas didn't understand that when you play Green Bay, every possession is the most important. We can't mix it up. We have to get our best players on the field. Zeke should have carried the ball 40 times. They were playing nickel defense all but six plays in the game. That's not, really, the recipe to beat the Cowboys, but it was on that day.

The error with Lombardi is that conventional wisdom for those who thought Dallas would win was that Dallas would run the ball and keep Rodgers off the field. It was talked about on every sports show and every sports news publication in digital and print. It was so obvious that Garrett refused to do it. Just get first downs. But the huge Dallas rally in the second half came from just slamming gains with Zeke and Dak and Beasley.

If Garrett is asked about the the run before a game, he will say "balance". If they are losing in the first half, he will blame the lack of running (which is his game plan), and if the team is failing at passing and continues to pass when they should be running he will give the Belichick line "well you want to stay aggressive".

He does not want to run and he doesn't want to be told he needs to run.

So this asshole sacrificed --- no... SABOTAGED the Cowboys' chances to make it to the NFC Championship and possibly the Super Bowl, because he wanted to give a big FUCK YOU! To all those that had the audacity to voice running the ball (the very thing that got them to where they are at, and was instrumental in beating the Packers the first time around) as a common sense approach to winning the game?

He didn't abandoned the run for any strategic rationale. In fact, it's wrong to even say that he abandoned the run, because in order to abandon it, you first have to be committed to it.

We literally have an intelligent idiot at head coach. I'll never forgive him for fucking up that gameplan so severely.

The 2013 fame against the Packers was far worse.

Oh I remember that. And it was bad. But this game, because of what it was - a ticket to the NFCCG that was horrendously mismanaged, was worse imo.

Intelligence is of little value if it cant be applied for any benefit. 1 playoff win in 7 years is pathetic with the rosters the red clown has had. Signing Garrett to a new contract may be a bigger blunder than running Jimmy off.
