Most of the passes werent completed immediately though, they were completed after the guy stood there like a stone and waited for guys to break open down the field.

Wrong. Newman had to hold because he got beat so badly.

Where in the hell is the pass rush? It's pathetic. Pretty much a non factor.

I'd say the corners are pretty much the least of our worries. The secondary in particular.

The pass rush needs to improve. It's garbage compared to the DBs.

How was he horrible? Because he couldnt cover guys for 10 seconds? Seriously?

No CB's can cover people when QB's have as much time to throw as Grossman had today.

And alot of those completions that apparently you and others are blaming Newman for, were in zone coverage on throws between the hashes.

It wasn’t 10 seconds. Playing zone coverage does not absolve you of coverage responsibilities. If he is in your zone, cover him. Maybe he was afraid of a double move, i don’t know. When a play needed to be made, Newman was the corner they attacked. Notice teams are not shy to attack him?

I'm not going to fault Newman for today. The entire defense was terrible. Rob got outcoached by Kyle. Go figure.

When did Newman hold?

I remember Scandrick getting called for a couple but dont recall Newman being flagged.
Bob misremembers who was worse back there.

Ball and Sensy gave up the TDs. I don't fault Ball much for the one at the end though. Sensy looked like he didn't know he had a CB to the outside on Gaffney's TD. Inexcusable.

He held Anthony Armstrong, was beaten bad for a TD if he had not held. The announcers even went over it saying it was a smart, veteran move by him.

And on the play that OScan picked off Grossman. Grossman had someone wide open up the deep middle on the same side. Can you guess who was covering him? Thank goodness that Grossman is a backup type QB.

Right. But see what I mean? The lack of a pass-rush had nothing to do with Newman getting turned around, which essentially happened all day for him. He was getting beat right from the snap.

That was one play. Everybody gets beat some, no CB is perfect. Especially CB's that play on teams that cant rush the passer.

We've had basically no pass rush since the New England game. Started on that GW drive they had, and has continued since.

And Grossman was pressured on that causing him to chuck it up, why would it have made any difference if he went to the other side?

I don't have many complaints about Newman this year. He's done a good job. Besides Ware we need to get more of a passrush.

If the front seven does their job it makes it easier for the corners and safties. Having said this Newman's done a good job and Jenkins has been out injured.

Give a brother a break.

Newman has his good games and bad games. He had been playing very well the last few games. Didn't play so well today, he's at his best when he committs to challanging for the ball.

That being said, we didn't cover well as a team today and we didn't rush the passer very well either. Our defense as an entire unit needs to play better than they did today if we want to continue to win games.

Our passrush is pretty damn putrid right now. I see different guys getting pressure at different times, but its not consistent enough. Hatch gets in there, Rat, Ware, and Spener.. Lissemore at times, we just can't seem to keep getting consistent pressure though. Its flashes here and there.. that needs to change.

What other side? Dude was open on the same side from the slot with Newman trailing.

Probably the 4th worst regular contributor on defense after you get past Brooking/James/Ball.

So yeah, he's the worst starter on defense as of the last month or so.
