The collapse of the Dallas Cowboys this season started when owner-general manager Jerry Jones turned training camp into a multi-city marketing exercise, former fullback Daryl Johnston said.

``I went to their training camp, and it's not an environment that's conducive to preparing for a season," Johnston told the New York Post. ``They didn't work hard enough, and there's too many distractions. There's too much outside stuff with them.''

The Cowboys held training camp in three cities: Irving, San Antonio, Texas; and Oxnard, California. They had a game or a practice in four different cities during an eight-day span.

"How can you be effective in training camp with over 20,000 people at the majority of your practices?'' asked Johnston, citing the marketing-driven decision to have open practices at San Antonio's Alamodome. ``How can you be a tough, physical team when you only [practice] full-padded three times the entire training camp? They really didn't put themselves in the best position to have success this year."

You can't say anything to counter this because it's so true and to the point. I was always against this multiple-city TC. They need to keep it with just one place.

You can't be a good owner when you act as your own bad GM. It's not possible.

That's Cowboys fans trying to put some kind of lipstick on that pig. Sounds good to say great owner, but the truth is he's a horrible owner and the team would be much better off if he sold it.

I am with Moose all the way with this. Jerry said that the "93" did a slit camp and went on to the super bowl.

But that team just came off of a super bowl win and had a coach and players to get away with it.

Jerry needs to realize that there never was a GM in the league that was both Tex Schramm and Gil Brandt. He either needs to be a strictly football GM, or is a marketing owner.
