Cowboys beat writer David Moore answered your questions in a chat Monday. Here are some highlights.

Can you explain the drop off in Mike Jenkins' play?

It wasn't a Hamlin thing. It was Jenkins taking a step back.

Jenkins believes that may have been part of the issue. The Cowboys asked him to play off the ball a little more than they did the previous season and he believes that cut into his aggressiveness and effectiveness. An argument could also be made that the Cowboys had him play off the ball more because his technique slipped and he was getting beat more.

How quickly can we anticipate some of the dead wood players getting cut?

The reason I don't think you'll see the Cowboys or other teams cut these players right away is because they have no idea of what rules will be in place going forward. What if the labor impasse goes on for so long that once league operations resume there is only a seven to 10-day window for free agency? What will the cap be? Who will be free agents under the new agreement?

There are too many unknowns to flood the market now with players you don't think you want.

Why were Campo and Houck allowed to keep their jobs after last season?

Both men have done a quality job for this organization for a lot of years. But you could see by what the Cowboys were trying to do with their staff - adding an assistant offensive line coach for Houck and showing interest in other defensive backs coaches - that the organization is trying to transition to the future with a staff that does not include Houck and Campo or puts them in different roles.

It could also be said that his technique slipped because of the poor practice habits the team had on top of the soft training camp.

I'm ok with both. I know Houck is a good OL coach. Campo is up and down a little, but he has basically nothing to work with at safety right now and the pass rush was invisible at times too. We made a great hire IMO at defensive coordinator, and his addition is such a huge plus that it far outweighs any negative of keeping Campo IMO. The scheme will be entirely different.

I'd rather keep Campo than Houck.

I don't know. I suppose I would too simply because I have little respect for a secondary's impact on a team. More so the cornerbacks. I respect the safeties.

But an offensive line is so critical it hurts to have less than quality coaching there.

We have no talent along the offensive line. I wouldn't want a single player we have there. But at the same time, I wanted a fresh face at OL coach just to turn the page from a failed regime. The more familiar faces we have on that staff, the worse off we are.

I think Jenkins will be fine, like you said in your post it has a lot to do with poor practice habits.

This team wasn't disciplined from the start of training camp thanks to fat Wade.

With Ryan and Woicik coming aboard this year things will be different.
