FRISCO -- Dallas Cowboys running back Darren McFadden said Monday he can't extend his right arm all the way yet and he's not sure that he'll ever be able to have full extension.

McFadden hasn't practiced since early June after he fractured his right elbow over Memorial Day weekend after slipping near a pool. McFadden had surgery in mid-June and has remained on the non-football injury list throughout the preseason.

The Cowboys placed McFadden on the reserve/NFI list to start the season when they made their roster cuts Saturday. McFadden will miss the first six games of the season now.

McFadden showed reporters Monday in the locker room that he can't fully extend his right arm.

"It has little glitch in it," McFadden said. "But nothing that will stop me from doing anything football-wise."

McFadden was then asked if he'll eventually regain full extension of his right arm.

"It's kind of up in the air," McFadden said. "Anytime I ask, they say it's a possibility it could. And then sometimes with that injury it does happen that way. (not getting full extension back)."

McFadden said he's more than disappointed about landing on the non-football injury list to start the season.

"It's hard right now, having to go on NFI," McFadden said. "You definitely don't want to be on there. As far as the bone, it's healing up pretty good, but I still have a lot of strength and stamina to get back."

McFadden said he believes he'll be ready to return to the field before he's eligible to come back after six weeks.

"After six weeks, I shouldn't have no problem," he said. "My thing is I always feel like I'm ready to go. I still feel like I'm ready to go."

McFadden is in the last year of his contract with the Cowboys. He finished fourth in the league in rushing in 2015 with his second career 1,000-yard season.

Yea I don't believe he can be traded either. He's on the NFI list for 6 games right? And the trading deadline is week 6 right? So he's pretty much here for the whole year.

So now we have McFadden, Tapper, and Romo all who's injuries are worse than originally reported. Two of them with broken backs

Good job front office

Don't forget the 2nd round linebacker who our doctors signed off and may never play a down.

The FO claims there was trade interest when they knew all along he wouldnt pass his physical on a team with a competent medical staff. Maybe if a team would hire the zones E doctor they could pull off a trade.

I don't even count him as part of the team until he takes the field in a regular season game

Until then I have written him off along with Gregory as another wasted 2nd round pick

I don't understand how the inability to fully extend his arm WOULDN'T affect his ability to play football. Like... for blocking, reaching for the ball on catches, etc. Plus in the weight room.... you not going to bench press correctly or do push ups, etc?

WTF does he mean by that? Seems like the inability to straighten an arm might be a career ender.

That's why they should have traded him long ago like I said when he still had value

Now he's just a paycheck who can't play and isn't worth a damn to us

its not in their DNA to get any return on their assets.

They manage from a place of fear born out of the insecurity of knowing deep down they cant compete against their peers at the highest level due to their ignorance and insufficient experience. As a result, they are stymied by a combination of not knowing what to do and worry that another team might get the best of them and in the end they do nothing and get nothing in return.

Do you think there is any chance that Stephen is refusing to let the team bend over and get completely screwed again? We know Jerry is all too willing to bend over, grab a cheek in each hand and pull as hard as he can. I could see where every other GM is seriously lowballing them for DMC (and Leary) and Stephen decided to just keep the depth than get screwed again.

perhaps, there has been some evidence to support the idea he is more rational but I guess we wont really know until jeri is 6 feet under.
