Right. That would be the way to go, Cullen Jenkins and Joseph would be okay with me.

I'd rather see that than spend all our money on Nnamdi.

I would like low key mid level free agents with the only big one being jenkins also.

I like the idea of elam back there knowing the defense from the first second he is there, plus he knows some of the guys here still.

Joespeh is 27 so he wouldnt be cheap either. Thats only if Newman thinks hes worth what hes getting.

My FA wish list is pretty set in stone and if they sign someone else then that guy sucks.

Free, Kosier, Bowen, A guard(Mathis?), C. Jenkins, Huff, and Elam.

I love the Huff, Elam, Jenkins moves.

I dont know much about Mathis but Leonard Davis is another guy who they are paying a ton for and is giving you UDFA level play so something needs to give there as well.

Yeah, I agree with this. But as far as Davis and replacing him, I'd go for a guy like Blalock or Deuce Lutui, Mathis has been injury prone as of late, hasn't he?

Give me two new starting safeties (Huff and Pool perhaps) and a new starting G (Blalock perhaps) to replace Davis.

Resign Free, Bowen and Kosier, and maybe add a middle of the road DE via free agency too.

I'd restructure Newman or release him to free the space, then re-sign him. A new deal for him would probably be less than signing J Joseph and will certainly be cheaper than NA.

I like the McDaniel kid from the Dolphins. If we got to cut Newman, I wouldn't mind Joseph as a cheaper version to Nnamdi. But if not him, then Eric Wright of the Browns would be fine with me.

This is probably one of those times where we need to resist temptation. Signing Nmandi would be great but the money that it would take and the obvious need at safety, add to that Newman being good enough, doesn't make much sense for us.

Somebody at CZ is saying Laufenberg said Cowboy brass "would be surprised if the Cowboys DIDNT sign NA"

Said it was on the local news there.

I have no idea if its legit or not.

Yeah dbair He did say that. but I didnt take it like he meant it that he was told it by a source or whatever.....sorry for confusing statement!!!

I put the video up here in the videos thread on the main page. Babes point was that jerry gets everyone he wants and has never been turned down. The question that isnt asked or answered however is does he actually want namdi?

I'd pass on giving a big contract to a cornerback on the wrong side of 30. besides, I think we will be fine with what we have as long as we address the safety positions. Do that and sign a vet defensive lineman for the $$$ you would be giving NA.

+1. I've been saying this exact same thing. With that said, I would not be averse to cutting Newman and bringing in either Joseph or Wright.

There's no way this happens, but Jesus, I'd go nuclear if we bring him in at, what, 17 million a year? 19 million? Just thinking about giving that much up for a cornerback when there are at least 2 perfectly serviceable CBs on the roster, with all the other gaping holes already on this team, makes me want to vomit.

Its not like Nnamdi at 5/$70M eats up that much cap room every year. Theres singing bonuses and what-not.

If his deal is similar to Revis his cap number is what Newmans currently is or lower.

Dont forget that if they hit on some of these draftees like Tyron, Carter, AOA, Murray, Lee, Arkin etc. then they should be in good shape for the future

I don't want to sign Nnamdi. What was the last big FA corner signing that really payed off? Samuels is ok, he's not a difference maker. Antoine Winfield I'd say Minny got their money's worth. Then go back to Deion? It's just not a huge position of impact. I think we can make reasonable, mid-range FA additions to our defense and see big upgrades.

If we're going to make a splash, I think Nnamdi is a splashworth talent. I'd just rather us not take that kind of risk. I'm not sure the potential reward is great enough.
This is what gets me. But if it's a decision between him and Newman, then it goes to exactly how much more Nnamdi will cost. Is he worth $10 million more over the next 3 seasons? $20 million? I have no idea.

I am just scared that he hasnt been playing against competition as good on a week to week basis that he will in the nfc east. I fear we pay him like a top 3 corner and he ends up not being a top 3 corner.

THis is quite a dilemma this team has right now. No safeties and a big issue at corner. I would be happy with newman staying and brining in another veteran corner for different packages and two safeties, one being elam who knows the defense cold from day 1 on thursday.

It'd be a big splash, but I wouldn't like it. Too many other pressing needs.
