Then again, maybe the lockout will prevent teams from tampering. You can't tell me the Redskins can sign guys hours into free agency without having had some kind of negotiations with those agents prior to free agency.

We'll see. I think they sign one of the Jenkins' and Jamaal Brown or Moss within the first couple of days. After that they could go after Dahl and maybe a mid level CB and that'll be it.

Desean Jackson Holdout could be coming

I mean he is the NFL's greatest receiver.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/26/desean-jackson-holdout-could-be-coming/

Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He has never held out, despite being grossly underpaid.

That may be changing.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that Jackson is considering his options. And one of those options would be not showing up for camp.

Quarterback Mike Vick suggested earlier today that trouble could be coming. “Hopefully, he’ll be here tomorrow,” Vick told reporters, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. “DeSean just has some things to think about and some decisions to make that only himself can make.”

(That’s dangerous ground for Vick to tread. Several years ago, Packers quarterback Brett Favre strong-armed receiver Javon Walker into abandoning plans to hold out. Walker tore an ACL in Week One, and he was never quite the same ever again.)

Like Titans running back Chris Johnson, Jackson deserves a new deal. Unlike Johnson, holding out past late August will hurt Jackson’s shot at free agency. Since DeSean is entering his fourth NFL season and since his rookie deal covers only four years, he needs to get credit for an accrued season in order to become eligible for unrestricted free agency in March. Otherwise, he’ll be a restricted free agent, assuming he shows up by Week 10 to get credit for the final year of his contract. (Yeah, it gets confusing. It’s still better than talking about the lockout.)

Agent Drew Rosenhaus recently trumpeted the fact that he hasn’t had a client hold out of camp in years. Even receiver Terrell Owens, who had an ugly spat with the Eagles six years ago, never actually held out. It could all be changing now, as Rosenhaus tries to get Jackson a long-term deal without forcing the undersized player to make it through another NFL season.

And even if Jackson shows up for camp, don’t assume he will be a happy camper. Last year, he reportedly was preoccupied with his contract to the point that it became a distraction for him.

If it becomes a distraction for the team, it could feel like 2005 all over again.

if they put drc and burress in that locker room that is going to be one combustible group of guys in a city that loves to bitch about everything.

I would love to see it in melt down mode again like 05.

Redskins planning to spend big and often

Redskins plan to spend early, often in free agency
Posted: July 26th, 2011 | Jason La Canfora | Tags: Santana Moss, Cullen Jenkins, Marshal Yanda, Santonio Holmes, Washington Redskins
The Redskins are making a run at receiver Santonio Holmes, offensive lineman Marshal Yanda and defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins, NFL sources say, and retain interest in their own free-agent receiver, Santana Moss.

Washington is prepared to spend big to supplement the roster, sources say, and Giants defensive tackle Barry Cofield is also a target. Talks with agents began this morning and are ongoing.

Its gutsy bold moves like Beck starting at QB with no competition and the Eagles making their OLine coach their DC that worry me the most...

Boom or bust.

The only confirmed contact atm is with Yanda's agent and I have no problem whatsoever with throwing some at him. I think if they can sign him they get two players after that. The Jets are still favorites for Holmes from what I've been reading.

I'd bet they get Jenkins and maybe even Yanda but it won't be enough to pull them out the cellar...

BUT It will be enough to keep them from drafting Luck next year :towel

If the Vikes give up more than a 5th they are stupid, he's gonna get cut shortly if they are patient and I'm sure the Vikes are on McNabb's shortlist.

Apparently Baltimore does not want Yanda going anywhere... They're saying Buffalo could make a push for him by throwing a lot of money around too.

Up here in Minnesota, the talk was a late round draft pick. The Redskins are trying to get McNabb to restructure to make it more palatable for the Vikings. If I was McNabb, I'd say screw the Redskins and refuse, force them to cut him, and then negotiate on his own with the Vikings.

Redskins | Anthony Armstrong looking to step up

Redskins | Anthony Armstrong looking to step up
Tue, 26 Jul 2011 17:42:35 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Anthony Armstrong hopes to improve entering the 2011 season. He had 44 receptions for 871 yards and three touchdowns in 11 starts last season. Armstrong is taking the Redskins' interest in other wide receivers personally. "It's one of those things that if you bring somebody else in at my position, it means I wasn't doing my job effectively," he said. He was one of the first players to report to the team facilities when doors opened Tuesday, July 26.
