The way the new CBA has come together, the terminated contract used in the June 1 policy means the Cowboys can take $6 million in savings off the salary cap thanks to the release of Davis.
Davis from Wortham, Texas, who played college ball at the University of Texas, started 16 games for the Cowboys for four consecutive seasons. Davis struggled at times in 2010, he was benched in the second quarter of a Oct. 10 game vs. Tennessee for Montrae Holland.
However, when Holland suffered an injured eye, Davis returned and started playing better. Davis didn't miss a snap the rest of the season yet when things were over it appeared it might be time for the Cowboys to move on.
