A week after a top NFL official acknowledged for the first time a link between CTE and football, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he is not convinced that the data shows there is a connection.
Jeff Miller, the NFL's senior vice president for health and safety, was asked March 14 by Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., if the link between football and neurodegenerative diseases such as chronic traumatic encephalopathy has been established.
"The answer to that question is certainly yes," said Miller, who was attending a roundtable discussion of concussions in Washington.

  • Recent brain research appears to suggest CTE is prevalent among people who played any contact sport, not just former NFL players, whose diagnoses with CTE often dominate headlines.

Jones, speaking at the NFL owners meetings Tuesday in Boca Raton, Florida, said that while he is very supportive of efforts to make the sport safer, he wanted to caution against drawing conclusions from the data now available.
"We don't have that knowledge and background, and scientifically, so there's no way in the world to say you have a relationship relative to anything here," Jones said, according to the Washington Post. "There's no research. There's no data. ... We're not disagreeing. We're just basically saying the same thing. We're doing a lot more. It's the kind of thing that you want to work ... to prevent injury."
Pushed on whether he believes there is a link between CTE and playing football, Jones responded, "No, that's absurd. There's no data that in any way creates a knowledge. There's no way that you could have made a comment that there is an association and some type of assertion. In most things, you have to back it up by studies. And in this particular case, we all know how medicine is. Medicine is evolving. I grew up being told that aspirin was not good. I'm told that one a day is good for you. ... I'm saying that changed over the years as we've had more research and knowledge.
"So we are very supportive of the research. ... We have for years been involved in trying to make it safer, safer as it pertains to head injury. We have millions of people that have played this game, have millions of people that are at various ages right now that have no issues at all. None at all. So that's where we are. That didn't alter at all what we're doing about it. We're gonna do everything we can to understand it better and make it safer."

So that concussion settlement that the league entered into, agreeing to pay $900+ million was what, Jerry?

Well if he can convince himself he's a real GM all this time, all bets are off regarding his ability to think straight about anything.

Maybe CTE is related to consumption of Johnny Walker Blue.

We can certainly point to JWB as a possible cause of serious delusional thinking....
He's a walking advertisement for avoiding that crap.

Jerry can't even spell CTE much less describe what a correlation is. The confirms for me why Garrett has the mind meld on Jerry: Jerry is dumbfounded by analytical logic and since he lacks it, he becomes a fan of those close to him who have it.

I seriously thought when I first saw the headline in my news feed it was TotalProSports or Sportspickle or whatever and just kept going.
So Jerry played football right? On the O-line when the headslap if not legal was not called so much?
I'm stealing bbgun's line,you finish the joke.

Which is a shame unto itself, because JWB is some good stuff.

Yeah, but what analytical logic has Garrett displayed?

Yeah, but what analytical logic has Garrett displayed?

Many crazy and foolish people have logic but when it's consistently non productive, inefficient or unrealistic it's when the logic is not devoid of itself but rather just bad. Jason "analyzes" that if offensive skill position players (namely QBs and WRs) are already trained in Coryell especially by Norv, then those players are to be sought over more talented, pivotal or playmaking players because he thinks he can have them working quicker into his scheme with very little adjustment. The problem is most of those players are back ups, has beens or never weres. He also uses such logic, no matter how stupid and disproven, that just because a player is team captain or a missionary or had sights set on running for Senate that he makes a good football player; what Jason is actually intending is he will have players that will not overpower him or gain more authority if things fall apart (Greg Hardy case in point). Third is that he reasons that an offense that features 9 route options on any play depending on what the defense shows is one step ahead of the defense and constantly variable.

This is still analytical logic. It's just continually failing to produce, a waste of time and really not realistic but it sounds good to the itchy ears of the Jones family.
