Jerry: 'Why don't I get someone to be GM?'

IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys' prolonged run of mediocrity, which has produced one playoff win in 17 seasons, has featured one constant.

That, of course, leads to one logical question. And one absolutely illogical answer.

Jones
Jones"It's often said that, why don't I get someone to be the GM?" Jerry Jones said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan. "Why don't I get someone to pick the players? Well, who in the world do you think that person when they walk through the door and say, ‘We want to get this player or we want to pay this player,' what in the world do you think I'm going to do? I'm going to sit down and I'm going to go through it and I'm going to say, ‘Show me the player. Show me everything about the player before I write the check. Show me the player and let me see everything about the player.'

"Well, rather than that have happen, I get involved in it and know everything about the players before they get to the door. That, if you've got the time to do it, that's a better way to do it."

Why hire an architect when you've got time to decide how you want your house to look, right? Never mind that you keep building houses with leaky roofs and crumbling foundations.

Jerry is just too stubborn to admit the Cowboys would be better off if he got out of the way and just focused on his strength, which is being one of the premier marketing men in sports history. He refuses to admit that he's a football fool, and he has three Lombardi Trophies in his office to show anyone who wants to argue otherwise. (Jimmy who?!)

Much breath has been wasted on this maddening subject over the years, but Jerry has made it clear he didn't buy this fancy toy to let somebody else play with it.

He'll change coaches and the roster on a regular basis. But the GM who can't get it right has a job for life.

why do something different to try and stop the 17+ years of mediocrity and same ol same ol results

surely if they just keep doing the same thing it will eventually change...

The problem is he's working off of out dated plans. If a city inspector showed up to see all the shit that's not code, he'd have a field day writing his ass up on violations.

As a brick. He leaves out that someone with a better eye for talent might not also bring in a player, but will reject a player that's past his prime and not worth the cash this fool throws at re-treads. He might also run across someone who understands the need for a cohesive coaching staff and not a plug and play system comprised of dopey yes-men and old pals looking for work.

He'll listen to others but he'll still stink up the joint with his own bullshit decision which causes the clusterfuck in the first place.

He won't step down so he'll need to step back a little and hire someone like Bill and still have a hand in it.

Building model airplanes he says well we're not buying it. Let him in the house once is all it takes, next thing you know, your daughter is knocked up and there is change missing from your dresser. I have seen it happen a million times.

‘Show me the player. Show me everything about the player before I write the check. Show me the player and let me see everything about the player.'

Like you did with Quincy Carter? Shante Carver? Dwayne Goodrich? Charlie Williams? Martellus Bennett? Robert Brewster? Jacob Rodgers? Sherman Williams?

He acts like he's spending money wisely and being choosy as to who he pays a salary to. As though we have enough talent in this organization to be picky. I'm sure all 18 defensive linemen that we've shuffled in here this season were given the Jerry seal of approval, and weren't just a desperate attempt to plug the gaping holes in this sinking ship.

lol at the thought that Jerry can simply go to a few Senior Bowl practices, look up draft profiles that are shoved in his face for about 3 months and think that constitutes knowing 'everything' about players.

Say Jerry hired a GM.
Any GM.
Say that GM turned out to be a faultless talent evaluator,a master negotiator and not afraid to cut the dead wood.
Let's also say the GM hired a HC.
Say that HC was a tough taskmaster but was respected and loved by the players and they played their asses off.
And the Cowboys won another Super Bowl.
How much you want to bet this scenario has already played out in Jones' empty little head?
That's why it won't happen.
Skeletor 2 would have been wrong for 20 years.
Jerry's still trying to prove getting rid of Jimmy Johnson was the correct move.
I have this horrible feeling as I lay dying, hooked up to life support, the last thing I see will be RoboJerry announcing he's hiring Mike Shanahan's grandson as the next HC.

If all that stuff happened, people would give Jerry credit for finally swallowing his pride and stepping aside to a real GM. Not to mention, all the money he would make through the Cowboys being relevant deep in the playoffs again. I don't understand why he wouldn't want to win, whatever it takes. But he's not rational, so...
