IRVING — Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is still riding high after his team clinched its first NFC East title since 2009 on Sunday with a win over Indianapolis.
But Jones still isn’t making any bold Super Bowl predictions.
Jones said Tuesday on KRLD-FM (105.3) that he knows how it feels to have this kind of opportunity.
“I know how it can happen,” Jones said. “So I do feel like we’re going to be competitive. I feel like we’re as healthy as we’ve been all year.”
Before the Cowboys host a playoff game, they will close the regular season Sunday at Washington.
The Redskins ended the Cowboys’ six-game winning streak by shocking Dallas on Monday Night Football 20-17 on Oct. 27 at AT&T Stadium with Colt McCoy starting at quarterback.
“That definitely didn’t sit well with us,” Cowboys running back Lance Dunbar said Tuesday.
This time around, Baylor-ex Robert Griffin III is back starting at quarterback for the Redskins for the rematch.
“It’s Dallas week. Our fans want to sweep Dallas,” Griffin said Tuesday. “We understand the rivalry. They are not going to make it easy. They’re playing at a high level.”
First-year Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Tuesday it would mean “a great deal” to sweep the Cowboys.
“It would mean a lot just to see where we are,” Gruden said.
Jones, meanwhile, is still where he was Sunday night: on cloud nine.
“It’s wonderful. We knew this [NFC East title] would make for an exciting Christmas week,” Jones said. “Let’s extend this good feeling for getting into the playoffs, let’s extend this celebration we’re going to have here.
“It’s a great feeling. I’ve gotten to experience a lot of playoff games, playoff situations. But I don’t know that I can remember one that’s any better than this one. … We’re coming into an opportunity here where our team is getting better defensively. Offensively, I think we can say that as well. So that’s the way you want to be when you’re coming into the playoffs, in my experience."
