How about the 45 million dollar contract to Roy Williams after the trade. 20 million of it guaranteed.

Not to mention we gave Detroit, who has gotten better, because of it 4 draft picks.

You build your team mainly through the draft, then you sign a few free agents. You don't sell the farm for one player.

That's what good teams do.

Jerry has had a bad tendency to sign declining players or over pricing interchangeable parts for far too long.

The majority of competitive teams no when to cut bait and have a back up plan. This seems to bite Jerry in the arse every year and he ends up paying for it in the long run. Seems after a while you could catch on to your flaws but he is doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over.

It's all about the money. Jerry let Lurie beat him to the punch.

The Cowboys offer was more than fair. Generous to a fault. They offered Nnamdi $40 million over 4 years, the Eagles came in and offered $60 million for 5 years, basically offering the same as to what Jerry offered, but an extra year and an extra $20 million If the Eagles wanted to kick up an extra year for $20 million. I'm glad Jerry didn't bite. Let's be real, the Eagles offer was less about acquiring additional DBs---they would have been fine with Samuels and DRC, but as much if not more about preventing the Cowboys in getting Nnamdi.

Would have loved him here to replace Newman. If we are going to bash Jerry for paying a 30 year old CB, 12 mil then we should be pissed we are paying a 33 year old 8 million.

I'll take the 4 mil difference to replace a solid player for an all pro for a few years.

But we are only going to be paying that CB $8 million this one time. Newman is gone after this year. So it's not the same. If we would have gotten Nnamdi, it might end up copsting us more down the line.

Exactly. Cse in point. Adams should have been cut a year early, and that way, Free would have gotten two years in to where he could be evaluated.

Pretty sure Newman signed a 7yr contract in 07.

Yeah and...? What was the contract that Williams, and Davis signed? Also I think it was signed in 2008. He is guaranteed about $20 million in the first three years of the contract---they front loaded it. And this is the third year of that guarantee. With his injury and age, I don't see them keeping him, when he already has the guaranteed money.

We signed Deion when he was 28 and he never saw the end of his contract because he declined. The Eagles are mortgaging the future with Asomugha.

Who cares about the contract?
We got Prime so the Niners wouldn't have him.

That wasnt the only reason. Kevin Smith was an emerging star (and should have made the probowl in 93 and 94). The plan was to have Smith and Deion at CB, forming the leagues best duo. Then move Larry Brown to FS to pair with Darren Woodson.

Unfortunately Smith got hurt in the season opener vs NYG, and the plan never worked out the way we wanted.

Smith's injury was in 1995. He was never the same player after that.

Remember the commercial with him and Deion Sanders? "The Gipper" Kevin Smith was called appearing with crutches.

I remember it. He wasn't close to being the same player. Really a shame.

Nobody has helped me understand why they didn't restructure as much money as they could into last years uncapped year. That could have gone a long way in getting the cap scaled way down going forward into this year and beyond. If I remember right, Stephen or Jerry came out prior to last season and said they were treating 2010 like a normal capped year.

Was there something preventing them from front loading contracts last year.

What would the consequences been like for the cap this year if they'd have dumped the contracts of Marion Barber and Marc Coulmbo last year?
They did exactly that. And they put a large portion into 2011 in case it was an uncapped year as well. Since it's not, they waive the magic contract amendment wand and voila, more cap room.
