whats the broncos identity? peyton manning?

whats the pats identity?

you just need to be a good team to win - the whole identity thing is bullshit...

what about the saints?

what about the packers?

throwing the ball for billions of yards is an identity? no...its called having a great QB

So, do we?

No?

Then why do we pretend we do?

That is why we need an identity and have the QB support that.

That's what I'm asking you. Tell me what units those teams have that are so great? Cause they don't have any

I think the thing is, in todays NFL, if you have a great QB, you don't have to have a great anything else. You can just have good.

But great QB's are rare as hell.

And we don't have one.

So the teams that don't have a Brees, Peyton, Rodgers, etc.... they need to have a great unit to serve as their identity, and at least have a competent QB to support it.

We have Romo, who you can win with, if we had a great unit to serve as the identity of the team.

What did Brees do without Sean Payton that one year? And he wasn't exactly tearing it up in SD even when he had Tomlinson, Gates, and Jackson.

The Broncos and Saints don't just have great QBs. They have great passing games period. WRs, TEs, Saints have Sproles who's huge in the passing game. Broncos WRs corps is one of the best all-time.

So should our top priorities be OL and RB?

Identity is a lot more than being a "passing team" and a "running team".

It also has to do with the rest of the philosophy.

Ever notice how the Seahawks and 49ers are not described as passing and running teams only? You always hear strong defense.

Contrary to what people think, the dynasty Cowboys were not built by drafting RBs and OLs and devoting resources to that goal. We spent just as much getting the defensive pieces in place...if not more.

Broncos definitely...saints not so much..graham is a huge weapon. That's about it. The other guys are weapons, definitely, but you can plug and play a shit load of players in those positions and get the same production.

Or maybe that's your point. But how do you put your finger on that? Scheme? Coaching? Same thing I guess.

That's my point. All those teams that I mentioned are successful teams without an identity.

You guys want an identity...wouldn't we be closer to being a dominant offense than a dominant defense? So wouldn't the answer be to invest more in the offense?

Having an identity doesn't guarantee you'll be a contender. You have to have some kind of identity, but you can't totally neglect an entire unit. You can have an identity on offense, but if your defense is a liability, you're not going to get far.

So then what the heck are you supposed to do? Can't have it all...we have nothing, so I guess that's the main problem

New England's identity is Belichick's system and uncanny depth. The next man up philosophy really means something there. Sure it doesn't hurt to have one of the best QBs ever, but the system allows them to find WRs off the scrap heap and plug them in... much more so than the Saints. Colston has been a mainstay along with Graham. Lance Moore is dependable. But the Pats could literally replace all 5-6 WRs from one season to the next and not hurt much for it. The passing game suffered a little without Welker and Gronkowski/Hernandez, but were still very successful.

No. Our defense cannot even hold its own. I don't care how many more "weapons" are added.

This roster needs about 90% turnover. But with the current management in place, that will take so long that the quality talent we do have will be at the end of their careers by the time we turn that much of the roster over.

The Offense basically needs a better playcaller, a Right Guard, and a 3rd WR.

The Defense needs a DC born after 1950, 3 DL, 2 LB, and 2 S.
