Jerry Jones did a nice job bargain shopping

SAN ANTONIO -- The Cowboys haven’t signed sign a single sexy player from another team since the NFL’s free agency period began.

They failed to land Nnamdi Asomugha, and showed no interest in the best safeties available.

No worries.

At least they didn’t sign any bad players or hand out any contracts that will have us shaking our heads next spring when free agency rolls around again.

Bottom line: The Cowboys signed seven players for $71 million, which means Jerry and Stephen Jones did a pretty good job of bargain shopping.

As many as five of the players the Cowboys signed, including both safeties, will start. And they can feel good about their offensive line situation with Doug Free and Kyle Kosier locked up.

If the Cowboys want to go in another direction with Marcus Spears, Kenyon Coleman or Jason Hatcher at the end of the season, they’ll have the salary-cap flexibility to do it. Abram Elam and Gerald Sensabugh will be free agents at the end of season.

"At the end of the day, we had six free agent needs -- a couple on the offensive line, a couple on the defensive line and a couple on the back end -- we had to address, and we were able to do that plus one," Jason Garrett said. "Given the salary-cap circumstance and the new CBA, we had to be creative.

"We had to be able to make some hard decisions, which isn't always easy, but we were very systematic in our approach the entire offseason. We feel good about how things have turned out.

The Cowboys haven’t always been prudent, when it comes to spending free-agent dollars.

This time, they were.

I'm pretty sure that JJT is bipolar. One day he is ripping Jerry, the next he is praising him. I'm all for either one, just commit to your side of the fence.

We added two new faces, Coleman and Elam. All the other guys don't count because they were on the team last year.

You can hardly call that shopping.

Jerry gets us Taylor Mays, two more offensive linemen (starter at OG, backup OT), a 3rd WR (Cotchery)... and THEN I'll be impressed.

Yeah, not sure that's shopping. We added two new players. WTF is he talking about.

The Niners are shopping Mays? He made a few plays last year that made sportscenter, other than that, IDK.

Yeah apparently they sent out a mass email to all 31 other GMs saying he was on the block.

The question is what do we do with him this year?

We just re-signed Sensabum and Elam to 1 year contracts.

Unless, we use him for backup, and eventually he takes over for Sensy next year.

/shrug with the way Ryan does Defense, I can so see him putting 3 safetys out there. Who knows, but if we could get him and he work out. That is one last Safety we have to draft with only 1 year play time on him.
