And I agree with Cythim. Free is really nothing more than a stop gap swing tackle that should only be playing if someone is hurt.

Thats not true at all. He graded out exceptional in 2009 and 2010.

And he was a guy who generated alot of interest last year as a free agent, we nearly lost him to Tampa and Philly.

Is it?

Or was Douglas Free the best piece on a complete shat line in 2010? I think as the interior of the line gets better, everyone will see what a jag Free really is.

Or I can be posting bullshit. We'll see.

A few of us were telling anyone that would listen that Free wasn't the answer at LT. Nobody wanted to hear it. Then Smoth was drafted signaling the end of Free's left tackle career.

Only those same people wanted us to believe that teams take RTs as early as Smith was drafted. I guess not.

Whatever, Risen Star.

Yeah. Those same expert graders give the current offensive line as a unit a passing grade.

Again, Free was the best player on a terrible line in 2010. And he also wasn't even good enough to keep Marc Columbo on the bench when Columbo was clearly not right at the end of 2009.

Its okay D, Jerry tried to sell you Doug Free as a franchise left tackle. He's a good salesman. No shame in being duped.

This guy could be just the Kyle Kosier type free agent signing for the line that we need:

http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/02/22/ranking-the-2012-free-agents-guards/5) Geoff Schwartz, Carolina Panthers

Age as of 1st September, 2012: 26

2011 Grade: N/A (+12.3 in 2010 at guard & tackle)

Key Stat: Gave up pressure once every 27.9 pass plays after moving to guard in Week 7 of 2010

Behind the Numbers: After missing the entire 2011 season through injury, Schwartz may see a limited market this offseason as teams take a view of “what have you done for me lately”. However, Schwartz’s versatility and quality at a number of positions may just pique the interest of a team as one of the more valuable offensive line free agents–depending upon his rehab. Schwartz played both right tackle and right guard for the Panthers in 2010 and excelled in both spots in spite of only having just the bye week to bed in at right guard after playing the first five weeks at tackle. Linemen who can swing between positions or sides of the line are extremely valuable to teams, but too often they are a jack of all trades and master of none. In 2010, Schwartz showed the ability to play both spots to a high level. Yielding only one pressure to the Giants in his first start at tackle while putting in enough quality work at guard after the bye week to rank 15th in our guard rankings for 2010. Whether at guard, tackle, or both, Schwartz has plenty to offer any team that signs him this summer.

Our OL wasnt a massive failure last yr, it just wasnt good enough. There's a difference.

Again, Free was the best player on a terrible line in 2010.

That doesnt explain his high grades as an individual player for 2009 at RT and 2010 from LT. It also doesnt explain why other teams thought highly enough of him to get into a bidding war to acquire him.

And he also wasn't even good enough to keep Marc Columbo on the bench when Columbo was clearly not right at the end of 2009.

I think everyone knows why that decision was made, and it had nothing to do with who was better. It was called STUPID coaching. There are reports that said Wade made that call.

Its okay D, Jerry tried to sell you Doug Free as a franchise left tackle. He's a good salesman. No shame in being duped.

He played it well in 2010, there was no evidence out there to suggest he wouldnt be able to play it well there last eyar. He had an off year, it happens.

They also acknowledge that they intended to play Tyron Smith at LT all along, and the only reason they didnt was due to the loss of the offseason.
