We'll just have to agree to disagree. I think that in this case, the staff has evaluated Sensabaugh poorly and made a bad decision to extend him. No one was going to run out and sign him on March 1st. All teams make mistakes evaluating which players to re-sign or not to re-sign, so I'm not crucifying them. You are right that this deal does not cripple us financially but I hate the idea of rewarding medicority, especially when there was zero pressure to do so.

Its your opinion he is mediocre though, it might not be an opinion the staff agrees with you on.

I dont love the player either and feel we could do better, but keeping him keeps options open. We have alot of other areas of bigger need IMO, and letting him go just increases the need there potentially at the expense of some far more important areas.

if the cowboys thought "highly" of Sensy..dont you think they would have rewarded him more favorably financially?

All I'm gonna say dbair is that the talks to extend Sensy didn't start 2 weeks ago. In all probability they've been on-going since the offseason, before they had time to pull out their now, barely-started, pro and college scouting reports (that btw don't even know who all the free agents are going to be).

the defense is poor here talent wise.

I think next year Newman, ball, walker, brooking, james, spencer and possibly elam should be replaced. Since I have watched no college football this year I have no idea what dl are good, but I would replace any of our starting d lineman in a heartbeat sans ratliff.....so ends is what I mean.

so coleman, spears really wouldnt even be a lock if you upgraded the talent.

I think we go heavy at free agency to replace this defense and use the draft the way we did this year just take the better players you like.

having said all that, we are not so poor on defense that we should give up a 400 yard passer, 100 yd wr and a 100 yard rusher to a bum like jacobs.

that is just deplorable. I guess on a night where jenkins, ware and ratliff get hurt that is liable to happen though.

but to me, I clean house completely on defense and I use free agency next year to rebuild it. Go find players with specific qualities, to create a new identity. They will have the offseason with ryan to get there act together.

I think if we draft or sign a DE, and push Hatcher back to the nickel rusher, that could do wonders for our defense. And getting some sort of consistent pass-rush opposite Ware.

Hopefully too, Carter can step up and become a bookend to Sean Lee on the inside.

I don't know what we're going to do with the secondary. I don't like the fact that the returning signal caller for the secondary might just be Sensabaugh, who was horrible in the role in '10.
