But, the line "if it only saves one life" is bullshit and this is why. There are plenty of things that kill more than guns yet people sit idly by. It's a statement based on principle but it really has no principle....if that makes sense.

Maybe the issue isn't strictly about death toll.

Maybe it has to do with voluntary consumption of hazardous materials versus involuntary loss of life at the hands of another.

Perhaps if people were willfully lining up to be shot dead by a gunman you could compare it to tobacco and alcohol but I've yet to see much of that happen.
