Drafting a quarterback who was benched in his senior year was a flawed theory from the get go. Yes, he was injured, but when he came back and was healthy he sucked and lost his job to sophomore Jerrod Johnson.

The biggest problem is Jerry wanting to outsmart everyone IMO and he gets cute on draft day. He doesn't just want to add players to the roster who can help. He wants to find guys no one else is talking about so people will be in awe of him.

I agree 100%. But in saying that, how could you be an advocate in taking at QB mid-rounds and developing them?

3rd or 4th round? Sure. Take a prospect like Matt Schaub, Ryan Mallet, Kirk Cousins, etc and let him develop now behind Romo, be ready to go in 3 years.

Especially since we lose our f'ing mind in the 4th round and waste picks anyway.

I wouldn't draft a QB after the 1st round this year. Maybe Landry Jones in the 3rd? That's about it.

Okay, draft a QB top 10, then trade Romo to the highest bidder?

You don't think San Fran would give up their mid-20's pick (and maybe more) for Romo?

Take a QB prospect in the first. Let him and Kyle Orton have a QB competition in camp. Then use the pick from the 9ers or whomever and take the best available offensive lineman (Barrett Jones or Chance Warmack ougth to both be there) in the bottom half of the first.

No. No they wouldn't.

Well not with the current OL. But if we spend some premium picks on the OL in 2013 and 2014, then yes.

How can you have confidence that the team will spend premium picks on OL?

Outside of Smith, they've shown no interest in doing that despite OL being a need for years.

4th round is always the Cowboys gamble round. Stanback, Free, Arkin, Johnson, AOA.....small schoo/projectl guys with a ton of athletic ability.

The team can win with Romo, but he needs structure to succeed. Bill Parcells didn't make those rules for him for shits and giggles. He needs someone on his ass and Wade Wilson/Garrett don't do that. Remember the way they cooed over Romo the last time they were on Hard Knocks? If that were Parcells, he'd be making smart ass comments about eating cheese and the Hall of Fame. They put way too much on Romo right now and a good coach/OC would do wonders with him.

I'd go for a QB in the mid rounds and then sign the top guy from I-AA as an UDFA to see if he can be developed. None of that would matter because I don't think Wilson can develop anyone anyway.
