Bill Cowher has come out and said that he's "open to listen to opportunities'' once the regular season is over.

Since Cowher is willing to listen, should Cowboys owner Jerry Jones talk?

As impressive as Jason Garrett has been in his four games remember, he carries the label of interim. Nothing is promised.

Say Garrett runs the tables and finishes 7-1. Should Jones annoint Garrett the next head coach, or does he owe it to himself, the franchise and its fans to explore the possibility of adding Cowher? How can he not talk to a coach who compiled a 161-99-1 record and took his team to two Super Bowls?

Garrett may have the inside track on the job if the Cowboys continue to respond to his touch, but that doesn't mean he has the only track.

I would prefer it.

Only because it guarantees the GM takes a step back again. Retaining Garrett could just be more of the same.

This is the guy who thought Kordell Stewart was a real NFL QB. Even though others in the orgnaization (coaches, and front office) told him otherwise.

Spare me, homer. Just a few short months ago you believed in a career loser in Wade Phillips. Just a day ago you wrote how it made sense to hire that loser as the head coach here. And now you want to take shots at a winner like Bill Cowher.

Wasn't Tom Landry the genius that decided it was a good idea to rotate QBs every down?

That's one thing Landry was convinced of and I really never understood it.

He thought it was the system that worked, and it didn't matter who the player was.

Even the greatest of coaches have those blemishes on their record.

That was my point with Cowher. If you can't admit he's been a proven winner, then you are letting your fandom cloud your thinking.

Now, I personally believe there's a good chance he'll never duplicate that somewhere else. That the structure in Pittsburgh maximized his ability as a head coach. Like it's doing now with Mike Tomlin.

But, cmon. Take shots at a Bill Cowher a day after saying hiring Wade Phillips made sense? Laughable.

Landry= great coach
Cowher= massively overrated one

There actually was some reasoning behind what Landry did, and as you saw, he made the right call at the right time to switch permanently to Staubach at midseason, and the team rolled to a championship and became one of the dominant teams of that decade.

Cowher ignored everybody on Stewart. Even other teams laughed at how dumb Kordell was. yet Cowher stuck with the guy for several years. Cowher also got a very respected GM fired.

Go back and look at the numbers that Meredith, Morton, Staubach and Danny White put up.

Not saying that there was no difference in these players at all, but his system did work extremely well for all these guys.

Rotating QBs is an idiotic move. It is one of the most laughable moves I've ever heard from a head coach. It's beyond retarded.

Yet for some reason coaches still try it. Tennessee did it a few years back with Eric Ainge and some other dude and LSU was doing it this year with Jefferson and Lee.

I was talking more the NFL game.

Landry is an all time great coach. Like I said, he deserves his own chapter in the book of the NFL. But I think even he has admitted that was a mistake. Which was my only point. You can find something to criticize any coach that's ever walked a sideline.

I was agreeing with you... LSU and Tennessee had limited success with swapping QBs.

Oh lord not this shit again.

No, No, and OH YEAH. NO!

The chin doesn't need to be in Dallas. Fucking guy wins 1 Super Bowl, thanks to Dick LeBueo and now he needs to be in Dallas.?

Hell no. I would rather roll with the red head guy.

What if keeping the red head guy means Jerry is still right in the middle of everything but hiring Cowher means Jerry has to step back?

This is my only issue with Garrett.

I know Cowher will demand Jerry to step back a bit, let him run the locker room and players.

Yeah, Jerry will still have the final say, but Cowher's input will be heard.

+1. If we are going to do retreads, I'd rather it be Fisher.
