ORLANDO, Fla. -- Rod Marinelli wasn't in the mood to talk as he exited the Cowboys locker room after their 34-31 playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers.
He gave several short answers, many of which included him saying he wouldn't know until he watched the tape.
A couple weeks removed and Marinelli has had that opportunity.
"The game is so much about execution and coach and player, that's all our responsibilities," Marinelli said after a Pro Bowl practice when asked if he second-guesses the Cowboys' game plan against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. "You got to execute. We got into it for a while and we were OK, but then at the end of the day didn't get it done."
When specifically discussing Rodgers' highlight throw on third and 20 to get Mason Crosby in position to kick the game-winner, Marinelli said he liked the call they made defensively.
"That was a great play by him," Marinelli said. "He executed. If you talk about an inch, he hit the inch."
Here are some other highlights from an interview with the Cowboys defensive coordinator:
On how the Cowboys improve the pass rush going forward:
"We just got to drill and get into those situations and you got to find guys who can execute at those certain times. We didn't do that well enough. We had to pressure [blitz] more than I wanted to. I want to be able to rush four. Everything starts to open up for you there. We just got to keep working toward it. We got some good young players coming up. You just work with them."
On if he looks back at games later in life, second-guessing something that happened:
"You always do. That's how you get better. You don't beat yourself up with it. You say, 'How do I improve?'"
On positives he saw from the Cowboys defense:
"I think there's a lot of things positive, but when you build on it, you don't start building where you ended up, you start building at the beginning again. That's what you have to do. If you think you're just going to take off where you ended, that doesn't happen."
On the message he'll have for his guys when they get back in the building:
"Put your socks back on. It all starts with a pair of socks put on right. If you forget your socks, you get blisters. I start the very, very basics and then move forward."
