Defensive tackle Jason Hatcher said the defense is responsible for Sunday’s loss against Kansas City, but he is not down on his unit or the team.
“Not at all,” he said. “I’m very confident in our team this year. We’re a totally different team. Like I told them all early in the week, this is the best team I’ve ever been on, man. I’ve been here eight years. This is the best team I’ve been on.”
Hatcher had six tackles, including a sack and two tackles for loss, plus a quarterback hurry. He promised not to let the loss to the Chiefs become a downward spiral.
“I’m not worried about last year or rolls or whatever,” he said. “One-and-one and then you go downhill? That will not happen. We’re going to fight to the end, and we’re going to be contenders when this is all said and done.”
Hatcher brushed off his performance.
“Don’t put it on me. It’s not about me. It’s about team effort,” he said. “I don’t care how I played. I just care if we played well enough to win. We didn’t play well enough to win.”
He called it a defense vs. defense loss.
“They got two turnovers. We’ve got to get four,” he said. “So we couldn’t get the ball out tonight. We played great upfront and made some plays, made some clutch plays, got the ball back to the offense. But when it counted, we didn’t show up tonight. So we just got to get better.”
