Having slept on it, here are my thoughts on last nights game:

  • I don't know what it is about this defense with Kiffin, Marinelli and these guys. I get that they "coach turnovers", but I'm pretty sure every defensive coach in the league does that. I don't know what their technique is, but it works. Think back to the Bears last year. How many of their games turned on huge defensive turnovers.

Our guys played each defensive snap with turnovers in mind. Hell of a play by Ware peeling off the pass rush and getting into the passing lane as soon as he realized it was a screen. And I loved how our tacklers went for the strip every time. 6 turnovers in one game? Awesome.
  • Incredible hustle by Tony Romo and DeMarco Murray on that interception return by Giants safety Monday. Making that stop inside the one was incredible, especially considering Selvies sack followed and they had to settle for 3 instead of 7. HUGE momentum changer.
  • I'm not sure I like the whole Tony Romo handsignals to receivers before the snap. Seems like he's basically pointing out to the defense the exact receiver he's throwing too.
  • Shakey game one by Terrance Williams. Body catcher. Questionable route running. I wasn't impressed at all.
  • Wasn't impressed with any of the safties in coverage. Church had a big game, stripping the ball once and returning a fumble for a touchdown. Allen had an interception as well. But they both showed they couldn't run and cover ground. Big concern for me.
  • Romo looks injured. Romo looked injured before "getting the wind knocked out of him." His mobility was lacking. His decision making was off. His balls lacked zip and ball placement was poor. I don't know if this goes back to his back injury or if he's just showing his age, but he didn't look like the Romo we've come to take for granted.
  • Witten with two red zone touchdown receptions. It's a shame we haven't used him in the red zone more. He's cash money homey there.
  • On Victor Cruz's touchdown making it 27-17... how was that not an incompletion? Remember a few years ago when Calvin Johnson caught what should've been a game winner against Chicago, but it was ruled incomplete because as soon as CJ hit teh ground the ball came out? Same thing with Cruz. I think that should've been ruled incomplete.
  • Three Giant receivers had more than 100 yards receiving. I hated how they were gashing us late in the game. But our pass rush was gassed, and our safety play is questionable, so thats going to happen I guess.
  • That Brandon Carr pick 6 was awesome. I absolutely thought we were going to lose that game. Carr isn't a "great" corner, but you can't say he isn't a playmaker. Cincinatti last year - huge game changing INT. Pittsburgh last year - essentially the game winning INT. This year, game sealing INT. I appreciate #39.
  • Its early, and the box score only credits Selvie with 1 tackle/1 sack, but could he be the real deal? He was always around the ball in the backfield. On Hatchers sack, Selvie was right there. He was almost always causing pressure. He outplayed his college teamate JPP. If we found something there, wow... that would be incredible.

What I'm pissed about is receivers stopping their routes before the 1st down marker on 3rd down. That's how Dez got injured. They've done it for years. Anthother thing is Morris (sp? who cares) Claiborne. We've managed to trade up for a corner who's worse than Terence Newman at giving up plays and staying injured.

Terrance Williams is getting on the job training. I think I'd rather see Harris get the 3rd receiver reps at least until Williams is up to speed.

Nice to see Miles Austin picking up the slack when Dez gets so much extra attention from the defense.

I agree that Romo doesn't look like his former self. I'm hoping that Romo and the offense simply has some rust on it that will go away a few games deeper into the season.

Gotta love the defense's emphasis on turnovers. Sometimes defenses just get on a roll like that. Let's hope it stays.

I really enjoyed seeing the 4-3 again and a credible pass rush. The Giants' OL has some issues which helped the Cowboys DL look better, but regardless as to why, it was good to see the Cowboys' DL generate some pressure. Selvie looked good.

I also was disappointed by the lack of down the field throws.

Outside of that one where Romo horribly underthrew Dez on a third down, we didn't take any shots down the field.

Im hoping the addition of Waters really solidifies the offensive line. I thought they all played pretty well with exception to Rufus.

Right about Romo Mid even before he got crunched. His balls floated, didnt have a tight spiral. He definitely broke a rib of some sort. The guy is tough as nails and never gets credit for it.

The dline impressed me with all the injuries it suffered

Crucial penalties are still factor with this team. not sure what the remedy is.

I think terrance williams was open a lot which was good but he struggled catching the ball. I think he is raw and will surprise us this season

Its a win which is nice but a part of me is saying. Same old Cowboys

SMH. Common sense is lacking on that. I am really trying to grasp the logic behind it. Why not have the WR stop at the 1st down marker, where at least they may get forward progression? Now this is where Romo needs to say, "just fuck it! Go 2 yards beyond/pass the 1st down marker".

I hope we don't ever draft another CB or DB in the 1st round unless it's late. But no more in the top 10.

Don't sell us short. The Cowboys had issues on their DL, so it's a wash.

Yeah. And Amukamara was out of the game, and we still seem unable to press the advantage.

On a side note... I was against it, but I can't wait to see Waters in the lineup. I've seen enough of Bernadoo-doo getting tossed about.

I'm also looking forward to having Dunbar in the lineup. That pass to the flats to Murray, Dunbar would have turned that into major yardage. Not impressed with Tanner.

I agree, Romo really didn't look right from the start. Lets hope it isn't back related, because Jones gave him a shit ton of guaranteed money. You'd like to think before spending 100+ mils, somebody made sure he was 100% healthy and/or had no long term concerns.

Also wondered about the TD catch too, but nobody there seemed to really question it. I thought the ball couldn't come out at any point. I know if you cross the plane and then fumble, its a TD. But a reception is different from a fumble.

Calvin Johnson had his TD taken away because the ball "shifted" a bit in his arms. Total bullshit. If they took that away from GJ, how then they allow Cruz to keep his?

I know why, but nobody wants to hear it.

I'll bite, why?
.

I have absolutely zero doubt some of these guys try and supplement their income via Vegas. There's definitely enough on field evidence (not just our games either) over the years where they have made mind boggling calls or non calls. I know they'll never be perfect, but seriously how hard is it to throw a flag on a blatant take down that happens right in front of you? How is it a ref 50 yds away has to make up for a call the guy standing 10 feet away "didn't see"? The TD call Mid cited at a minimum should have been reviewed and wasn't (all scoring plays are supposed to be reviewed)

It isn't just our games I see this crap either. And they'll do whatever they can to insure nobody ever finds out, even if they (league office) do, for OBVIOUS reasons.

You guys are fucking idiots. Once the ball crosses the goal line in that situation, it's a touchdown
