No, the offensive guru knew how to use the talent on offense accordingly. He had a feel for the game, the talent at his disposal, and called plays accordingly. Detroit has not had a RB worth a damn since sanders retired. And they play in a tougher division.

Linehan is a well versed, well traveled, came through the ranks and has had great offenses at multiple stops. He's a good coach.

Garrett is a politician who plays the role but has no feel for the game, doesn't know how to use his weapons properly, and can't make an in game adjustment to save his life.

And now the facts:

From 2011 to 2013, Jason Garrett's first three years as a head Coach, NFL team offenses passed the ball 56.1% of the time.

From 2011 to 2013, whenever the Cowboy running game was averaging over 4 yards a carry, the Cowboys averaged passing the ball 55.7% of the time. Whenever the running game averaged less than 4 yards a carry, they averaged passing the ball 67.0% of the time.

Now, when you consider the fact that the Cowboys completely rebuilt the offensive line during that time, when you consider a 2012 season in which all 5 starting offensive linemen had never played their position for the Cowboys, when you consider that 17 different offensive linemen started at least one game for the Cowboys during that time.............

......what do you suppose was the typical status of their running game?

Hmnn....Plan A...depend on the running game despite the above described scenario...... or Plan B...use my veteran Pro Bowl quarterback, future Hall of Fame TE, and emerging superstar WR for offensive productivity while the offensive line develops......tough call!

So here was part of the decision:

During games in which the Cowboys were ahead by 7 or more points going into the 4th quarter, they passed the ball 57.0% of the time in that entire game. When entering the 4th quarter where the margin was less than 7 points either way, they passed the ball 62.7% of the time. And when they were behind going into the 4th quarter by 7 or more points their game passing percentage was 66.6% for the game.

Would it be safe to assume that the game's offensive balance was also influenced by whether or not there was a sense of urgency to score late in the game? Most Coaches would probably nod their head.

Incidentally, if Jerry Jones "robbed" Jason Garrett of the playcalling duties in 2013, who "robbed" Callaghan of the playcallimg duties in 2014?

If Jerry Jones had disagreed with his Head Coach's offensive philosophy and was interested in restraining him, why would he agree to hire the guy that his Head Coach worked for and learned under?

I'd be happy with 425-450 attempts. That's 26-28 carries per game.
Same here. Just enough to make it a dominant feature of the offense, ball control, clock eating, first down converting.

Would have been interesting to see the stats on our fewest rushing attempt seasons.
