and people complain about me homering!
Yeah, I can see where you'd think that but I'm actually really hard on USC kids. Until I moved to Arizona, I got to work out with these kids, work camps with them, etc., so I have a lot of insight into them (and some UCLA players) more than other guys.
If you remember from the other board I was singing the praises fo Dez Bryant, Eric Berry, and Taylor Mays long before everyone else. So far only Mays hasn't come through for me. My liking of Mays has little to do with him being a USC kid and more to do with his rare combination of speed and size, along with his total willingness to sell out and be physical. I think Pete f'd him by having him playing 18 yards off the LOS and reneged on his promise to move him to SS his senior year. If Mays gets the coaching and dedicates himself to the film room, he'll be a difference maker.
Tyron Smith is another kid who drove me crazy in college. He is not a fan of schoolwork and was ineligible or almost ineligible a few times. It wasn't that he wasn't smart enough, he just didn't like school. I look at him and see a tackle who can help neutralize the new, more athletic pass rushers.
Plenty of USC guys I'd want no part of. I did not want Jacob Rogers at all, especially in the 2nd round. Injuries and desire issues. Three things I love in regards to football..the Dallas Cowboys, the NFL Draft (scouting in general), and USC. In that order. I would never want us to draft or sign a player I didn't believe would help improve the Dallas Cowboys.
