I’ll probably do one of these every 4 games. I’m going with the Dolphins having our 7th round pick (Ryan Cook) until I discover otherwise. I also do not anticipate any compensatory picks due to the amount of free agents we signed last off-season.
For this mock, I’m basing this on a 6-10 type finish and a Head Coaching change. After the next 4 games, I’ll adjust depending on how we do.
1st round – William Gholston DE 6’7” 278 lbs. Michigan State - Everyone has him as a low 1st round/2nd round player right now but I think he is going to rise up the boards. He is an athletic freak who plays with a mean streak and will be a disruptive force on our defensive line. The Spartans actually played him at MLB some his freshman year to find ways to get him on the field.
2nd round – Khaled Holmes C 6’3” 305 lbs. USC – Holmes was a four-year starter for the Trojans who will finally solidify the Cowboys center spot.
3rd round – Bacarri Rambo FS 6’0” 210 lbs. Georgia – Like Gholston, I don’t think Rambo gets picked under Jason Garrett. He’s been suspended twice for drug (pot) issues. Outside of that, he is probably the most natural free safety in the draft and has a nose for the ball.
4th round – Johnathan Franklin RB 5’10” 198 lbs. UCLA – Felix is a goner and Franklin is more suitable for the role the Cowboys envisioned for Felix anyway. He’s very compact for his size, has great speed, and can make people miss. Franklin will be an instant improvement for the return game.
5th round - Joseph Fauria TE 6’7” 255 lbs. UCLA – Another Bruin. Tall, athletic target who will be a factor in the red zone. Needs to improve as a blocker. The last time we drafted #8 from the Bruins it workled out pretty good for us.
6th round – Mark Jackson T 6’5” 332 lbs. Glenville State – The 6th round (not the 4th Jerry) is ideal for gambling on smaller school prospects. Jackson is a big boy who can be groomed to play right tackle.
Sorry about 3 Pac-12 players, that was not intentional. Especially 2 UCLA players.
As always, critique mine and/or post your own.
