Then with Carver we could've had Tony Brackens but nope, traded down.

."

Carver was picked in 94. In 1996 we had a chance to draft Brackens (reportedly was a top-15 player on our board) but we traded down with Washington instead (out of 1st rd) and took Kavika Pittman. Clay Shiver ended up being the other guy we took.

Awful trade down.

I think it's a tie between Carpenter and Claiborne for worst pick evar. With Carver right on their heels.

got to roll my eyes at the rampant revisionism.

On the face of it the Carpenter pick looked like a safe one. From a NFL family and the stats show that they are more reliable then not from one. Played for a Major College program at a high level. Was in a position of need since at that time we did not know if Ellis could switch to OLB. Show me any reputable talking head (I know contradiction in terms) that thought that pick was out of line. He was picked exactly where just about everyone expected him to.

There was a lot of talk at the time that he didn't warrant a first rd selection for one.

Tamba Hali would have been nice to have on the other side of Ware (instead of Barbie Crapenter). Or Antonio Cromartie in the secondary getting picks instead blondie jumping on piles acting like he actually did something.

Who was a bigger Parcells bust, Crapenter or Jacob Rogers?

The scouts and team docs told Parcells not to take Rogers and he did it anyway.

Al Johnson, I'd forgotten about him. HORRIBLE PICK for sure.

I grimaced with the Carpenter pick, listened to it on the radio on my way to El Paso that year. I wanted Manny Lawson (I think) instead. Neither turned out too great.

Claiborne is the worst by far. The price paid, the spot drafted, and the "next Deion" hype all add up to franchise worst bust of all time.

Can't disagree at all. Drafting that high you have to get an All Pro caliber player. Claiborne hasn't been anywhere near that level.
