When the Cowboys drafted Travis Frederick in the first round, there were two widespread reactions.

The first was that the Cowboys may have reached to take Frederick at that point in the draft. The second grew out of the first as many inferred that Frederick’s selection gave him the prime position in the battle for the starting center job in 2013.

He may have that position, but nothing is set in stone yet. In a preview of the offensive line on the Cowboys website, Rowan Kavner suggests that Frederick could wind up switching to guard if that “proves a better fit” for the rest of the line. Hulk Hogan’s prospective son-in-law Phil Costa would likely handle the center job if such a switch were made while right guard Mackenzy Bernadeau cedes his spot in the starting lineup to Frederick. There doesn’t seem to be any suggestion that Frederick won’t wind up as a starter, although, again, nothing’s written in stone.

However the Cowboys decide to line up come the fall, the players selected for the lineup have to be more effective than they were during the 2012 season. Interior line play was a serious weakness for Dallas and improving it will be essential to a better showing from the offensive unit as a whole.

This would piss me off.

I'd be slightly less pissed if it was Bernadeau at C and Frederick at G than I would Costa at C.

Bernadeau was decent at C, and I he's got real good size.

That would be absolutely laughable if that is the case.
Reach and draft a center a full round where he is predicted to go and play him at guard

And yet as far as I remember reading, they didn't play him one minute at guard in the OTAs or minicamps.

Think this is just idle offseason speculation.

I hope we fucking cut Costa just so I can quit hearing about that ****** "the Hulk" and his tranny daughter/son. Yeah, I just called the Hulk Hogan a ******. Big deal, wanna fight about it?

Highly doubtful IMO and the article is just speculation, but the goal should be to get the 5 best OL on the field together. If Costa is better as a C than either Livings or Bernadeau is at G, then play Costa at C and let Frederick play the G spot. Or maybe Kowalski wins the starting C job and Frederick plays G then.

If the best OL is Smith LT, Frederick LG, Kowalski C, Leary RG and Parnell RT, that's who should start.

^That O Line is awful and would challenge for worst in the league. Parnell, Kowalski, and Leary all starters? Brace yourself for a 5-11 season.

I read your pom pom'ing. If that's the best we have to offer then we are in serious trouble.

There was no pom poing.

All I said was the 5 best OL should play, who cares who plays where. They just need to be better than the crap we've fielded the past 2-3 seasons. And the idea that somehow Frederick playing G instead of C means somehow drafting him was a failure or something is pretty lame. If he's a solid starter at G or C then the team will be better off, because what we've thrown out there at those positions the past few seasons has pretty much stunk.

Costa still had problems with shotgun snaps. Thats a big big deal! Why would you want that risk every game. Cook never had that problem.

He didn't play much, but I remember Costa's snaps last yr being much better than his previous yr, when it did seem like they were often "delayed" or "slow" to get back there.

Cant even have "improved", the center cannot be another variable on an Oline with so many other worries. Costa's snaps were not just slow or delayed (which i think had to do with him being undersized and weak) they were launched high and sometimes outside. Romo has enough to worry about in a ridiculous scheme of him having to manufacture and orchestrate a constantly changing set of circumatances and options that an uneven snap is the last thing he should have to deal with and those aberrant hikes generally erases many of those options.
