Which is why dumbass rules like these shouldn't exist. If someone is good enough for the job, they will get it.
Well that's like saying there is no racism. Or was no racism.
You can't tell me all a black man had to worry about is being good enough for the job to get it. Many have been denied jobs that they were qualified for simply because of their race. I don't think it's a common thing now, but certainly in the past.
My problem with this rule is it's pointless. I don't understand the mindset behind it. If you feel the NFL owners are racist, which you have to believe in order to think this needs to be addressed, then how does making them interview a minority change anything? What, are they really smooth talkers? Are they gonna change the man with one slick sales pitch?
If Jerry Jones is racist and doesn't want a black man coaching his team (he's not, just an example), then all the forced minority interviews will result in the same amount of hires. None.
Supporters will say it gets their name out there. Out there to who? To the people who aren't racist and would interview them without the rule? This rule was put in place to address racism. Those people don't count. What specifically does the rule do to counter a racist owner? Not a damn thing.
To me it's a cosmetic thing the league does. Makes them look good to the public. I don't believe it's gotten one minority candidate hired. On the other hand, it's insulted a lot of coaches with token interviews. It may even cost a team a coach on their staff with any delay to adhere to the rule.
