I still like the depth of this draft, picks 13'ish through 32. Lots of quality players.

If it was me, I'f hold tight to see if Fletcher Cox or DeCastro slides to 14. I know Safety Mark Barron is the people's champ and he does improve the position. I think we, as Cowboy fans, have been so desperate for improved safety play that some of us would jump for joy for a better player there. I just feel that deep coverage has been our biggest weakness and Barron doesn't do a lot to improve that aspect.

As far as Michael Brockers, I've made my feelings well known. If he's the pick I'll have to defer to Rob Ryan, who despite last year's struggles, I'm still a fan of. I'd like to think that if we took Brockers at 14 it will be because Ryan fought for him and it's not Jerry's influence or final decision. We've learned that Jerry, or whoever makes our draft picks :jerkoff , likes to make picks (after the 1st round) that no one saw coming. Last year, we drafted an ILB with a top pick for the 3rd year in a row and what at the time was a third RB.

Speaking of those 2 picks, imagine how different this draft would be had we gone in another direction. If we had not taken a "redshirt" pick on Bruce Carter, how good would Luke Kuechly or thumper Donta' Hightower look next to Sean Lee in the line-up?

Had we not hit it big with 3rd rounder DeMarco Murray, I would be pining for us to trade up for a shot at Trent Richardson this year.

That being said, I wouldn't be shocked if we look at 2013 needs in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Anthony Spencer, Mike Jenkins, Felix Jones, Stephen McGee, Victor Butler are all potential Unrestricted Free Agents.

Last, only partially draft-related but why is it that teams can get talented players (Asante Samuel, Keith Rivers, DeMeco Ryans) for later picks (7th, 5th, 4th) and we can't/don't? We always seem to release guys with remaining NFL value..Greg Ellis went on to start for the Raiders, Roy Williams went on to start for the Bengals) or overpay for players..the other Roy Williams, Joey Galloway. I wonder if the other NFL GM's have as little respect for our GM as I do.

fuck off dbair.

Take safety out, inserting offensive guard, and the same could be said for DeCastro.

The difference is Bob, a huge percentage of fans, draft "experts", media, etc. agree that DeCastro is a legit player. Right or wrong on DeCastro, you are currently in the minority on that one.

Ha! Bob is a minority.

Yep. He has gone from low first round pick to top 10 guy in the last few months. I still feel he's a top 15 to 25 guy.

Meanwhile, DeCastro has been up there the whole time.

Good post, cmd.

Agree about the 2nd and third rounds. Hence my belief we go something weird like TE at 45.

If Barron is the pick, I'm turning the draft off.

If we trade up for Barron, I'm beating my wife and kids.

Same deal for Cox.

Cox started out as a mid to late first round guy when the draft season started.

I went back and re-watched his games when the hype started. I have long since admitted he is much better than I thought. He is a physically gifted young man who explodes off the ball.

He was never mid-1st round until just a month ago. Then a couple of weeks later, he jumped to 7th in at least NFLDraftScout's rankings.

When Cox first declared most people had him as a first rounder but ranked behind guys like Devon Still and Jerel Worthy. I'm sure some scouts/staffs were always high on him but his stock just kept rising.

Was that supposed to hurt my feelings?

Yes. I would like to be a scout and I have wanted to be one since I was a kid. You got me.

I used to think you were just anti-homer and fought the ridiculousness at the Zone but I'm beginning to see why you get yourself run off even a board like this. You argue just to argue, you annoy just to annoy. You're winning the Internets, you're the man Bob.

I'm saying Barron is going to go where NFL teams have had him slated for awhile now. Internet draft sites aren't tracking what teams are doing before the draft, it's their own, unqualified opinions.

Yes, mine is too. Doesn't mean I'm not a motherfucking soothsayer though.

How players have been ranked by "scouting" services means diddly squat as to their ability.

your argument for why the fans want barron would hold some weight

if the scouts and decisions makers at VR didnt feel the same way..dallas taking barron immediately eliminates your argument..

it doesnt mean barron CAN cover..it means they think he can cover..i highly doubt the folks at VR hope he can cover just bc our other safeties suck..we have bigger holes than safety..

its clear dallas thinks barron is a top 10 player in this draft..

I would give Andrew Luck $100 to say:

Agree, and lots of players that help us in areas of need.

If he had all the holes that you apparently see, nobody would have this guy rated anywhere near a top-10 pick, maybe late first, but not first half of first.

As far as Michael Brockers, I've made my feelings well known. If he's the pick I'll have to defer to Rob Ryan, who despite last year's struggles, I'm still a fan of. We drafted Carter because of where he was on the board, not because "Jerry had to have him". And the 3rd rd RB looks like one of the steals of the draft

I like Hightower and Kuechly is a good player, but if Carter hadnt torn his ACL he'd be drafted ahead of both those guys if they were all in the same draft. I have no problems with it at all.

Had we not hit it big with 3rd rounder DeMarco Murray, I would be pining for us to trade up for a shot at Trent Richardson this year.

Agree

True, and smart to prepare, especially for potential losses of Spencer and Jenkins

Those guys are all available on the cheap for a reason CMD. With Samuel its that the Eagles couldnt wait to get rid of him. He stunk last yr and really wasnt much better in 2010. Might be the worst tackling CB in the league. Rivers is always injured. Ryans career is definitely on the slide due to major achilles injury. He didnt have a good yr at all last yr.

fuck off dbair.

I've made my peace with Barron at 14. Although I'd prefer him around 18 to 20. I realize he's a hot commodity right now and won't last that long, it's just where I feel he belongs.

Barron is an upgrade at Strong Safety, I can't deny that. The problem is that puts Sensabaugh back at Free, which I think is a horrible outcome for us.
