Checking in with Tony Dorsett

January, 31, 2011

By Matt Mosley

FORT WORTH, Texas -- I just bumped into Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame running back Tony Dorsett on the ESPN 103.3 stage in Sundance Square. Dorsett played his college football at Pittsburgh and remains a Steelers fan despite knowing how much that frustrates Cowboys fans.

I asked Dorsett for his take on the way the Rooney family runs the Steelers as opposed to how Jerry Jones runs the Cowboys:

"The Rooneys are very classy," said Dorsett. "They're very deliberate with their decision-making. Once you're part of that family, Steeler nation, they treat you with respect. You don't have a lot of rambunctious players running around."

When I asked Dorsett about Ben Roethlisberger's issues, he was quick to respond:

"They will not allow a player to smear the organization," he said. "They wanted to let that situation run its course. But I promise you he is very lucky to still be on that team."

When he was coming out of college, Dorsett actually begged the Rooneys to draft him. But he didn't want to end his career with Pittsburgh.

"I would've only played for them if I had plenty of gas left in the tank," said Dorsett. "I wouldn't have done that to that team."

I also just talked to Cowboys legend Lee Roy Jordan. More on that later.

Dorsett would have been a lot bigger and probably dead. Those old "clean" Steelers basically introduced the NFL to Roids.

He's a legend in Penn and put Pittsburgh football on the map. Of course he wanted to play there.

These reporters are batting a .1000.

Well hey, here's one way to maybe look at it. Perhaps this bodes well for the Cowboys in winning a Super Bowl soon. Sean Lee comes from Pittsburgh, went to Penn State, grew up a Steelers fan and undoubtedly wanted to be drafted by them.

And then maybe in the future some writer or the same will write and article titled, "Sean Lee wanted to be drafted by the Steelers".

Is there more to the interview?

Read between the lines, Rowdy....

fify.

Your interpretation makes about as much sense as Ware "dissing" Free because he talked about missing Flozell Adams.

Yes. I'm making things up.

If you ask me the difference between Jerry and Rooney and I tell you Rooney is classy, I'm also saying, without saying, that Jerry isn't. Or at least not near the same level. Or I wouldn't bring up class when asked the difference between the two.

It's a logical, look I graduated elementary school, conclusion.

What's the difference? Well that guy's classy.

You see what I did there?

No. You don't.

Once again, a tip of the cap to Tony Dorsett for calling out Jerry Jones as a piece of shat.

He's absolutely right.
