I think paying 35% of my yearly income is more than "my fair share."

But that's also the big issue isn't it?
People at the top pretty much gaming the system to pay less than that as a percentage? I know people who have some magic cut off where total amount paid in taxes all of a sudden becomes a better talking point (in their minds) than percentage paid.
I heard someone just the other day discuss the Buffett vs. his secretary story.
He said that she's paid more in percentages but he scoffed and said "get the fuck outta here" because Buffett has paid more overall in a single year than she ever will in her entire life.
I've always wondered where that break point is. What's total dollar amount of taxes paid where your percentage becomes an afterthought?
100K in taxes? 1M in taxes? If everyone was forced to pay 27% no matter what, would people be okay with it? I doubt it because as I said someone would say that 27% of 1M is a hell of a lot more than 27% 100K.
