Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports Sunday that the Philadelphia Eagles have a list of candidates for defensive coordinator. [Editor's note: Well, that's an important first step, right?]. A source has informed McLane that the team is waiting to interview at least one coach that is still in the playoffs, though as we know, they won't get that chance if that coach's team wins Sunday. Assistants on the Super Bowl teams can only take advantage of the interview window between the conference championship game and the Super Bowl if they are interviewing for a head-coaching position, but not if it's for anything less.

Interestingly, McLane's source has informed him that Jim Mora, Jr. and Dick Jauron were never legitimate candidates for the DC opening, in spite of speculation otherwise. Hosing down another hot rumor, the source indicates that the team has no plans to adopt a 3-4 defense, and will stick to a 4-3, though this doesn't necessarily rule out coaches that are more familiar with a 3-4 scheme.

New Orleans Saints secondary coach Dennis Allen is meeting with the Eagles this weekend, and Green Bay Packers linebackers coach Winston Moss and defensive line coach Mike Trgovac are rumored to be candidates. Dan Pompei of National Football Post dropped a bombshell on Sunday morning, reporting that former Cleveland Browns and New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini is a possibility.
