The situation with McClain is so weird.

He's a contributor, an important contributor, but at the same time, his whole situation is so tenuous. ... he came out of nowhere, has a history of ambivalence toward pro-football, he's on a short-term contract, can't practice due to various personal and physical issues, his 1.5 million dollar house mysteriously goes up in flames ...
The dude is a head case, no doubt.

But would it surprise anyone if McClain played the game of his life this weekend?

Eddie Lacy is from Alabama too. I'm guessing McClain is going to get fired up.

It isn't going to be Lee because of the investment. Durant was having a really good yr before he got hurt and probably wont cost a lot to keep. Carter has been outstanding the last month or so but because of his age and athletic ability, some team might gamble a bit and offer him a pretty good deal to leave.

I think they'd love to figure out a way to keep McClain long term, but if they do that his contract needs to be cap friendly and structured in such a way that if he goes off the deep end, we don't get hurt financially.

I'd let McClain go.

And if Marinelli leaves I'd probably be fine with Durant leaving also.

I want to see how McClain finishes off this season before making a decision. Sometimes having a half crazy, unpredictable, unstable, but very talented player on your defense is what makes your defense. (Think Haley) Maybe McClain can be that guy.

Still don't trust McClain as far as I can throw him. Right now he's what he always was, a talented head case. We've sort of papered it over, but the guy has barely practiced all year long on Wednesdays, the most important day of the week. Do you really want that kind of team leader? If you keep him, you better expect trouble, or at least one issue after another.

To me he's yet another thing that we've had the good fortune to have work out right this year, but that doesn't mean it's the right way to do business going forward.

Yep he's one of the time bombs this team has. If we re-sign him it should be for a short term, cap friendly deal not some massive contract.

Keep Lee in the middle, make Hitchens your permanent WOLB if Lee's health allows it, re-sign Durant, keep Wilber as his backup and draft another LB.

Does Lee do better and keep healthy playing Will instead of Mike?

Probably. I know that Stretch Smith guy who used to coach and scout for the team was saying we should do that before this last draft. He was saying we should take CJ Mosley if we could and move Lee to Will because he wouldn't get as much contact there.

Plus he does have the quickness to play that, and good enough speed for it I think.
