Yeah just not buying that, not with his history of paying guys, especially our "superstar" guys.

And he's repeatedly been bashed for it. I thought everyone was happy Stephen had more power and we weren't doing things the same way we always have?

Besides, we've established that Steve is an asshole of the highest order. Agree that Jerry wouldn't do this, but Steve might.

He's one of the two or three best players in the league at his position, he was going to be paid accordingly. Throwing something like that out there isnt going to drive down his worth to some bargain basement deal, and like I said putting that kind of stuff out there doesnt help him with the other area he can make money in regards to the player.
Then why hasn't he gotten paid already? Why did Steve say the franchise tag looks likely?

That depends on what you get in return, and of course what you do with any picks that result.

But again, I didn't say MAKE any deal. I said to me it's prudent to see what might be offered. Should be alot, if most owners/General managers in the league agree with you about Dez being a top three player in the league. You may have overstated that a tad.

Confuses me why people like Dez. He's a punk, a gangsta, immature and over emotional, and a whiny bitch. His baggage detracts from his talent. And I think he's going to be cancer in the locker room, much like Owens was. I'm all in favor of Dallas quitting on him while they're ahead, IF what we can get for him is stellar.

I don't like him, I don't trust him. Get a wideout who doesn't bring all the prima donna, gangsta baggage along with him.

Because of his 'gangsta' new agent?

Shop him. Trade him if it's a stellar deal.

Just not buying it dude. It doesnt make sense for him (or any team) to do something like this with their own guys. They love this guy.

Its called "negotiating" I believe.

Plenty of players that wanted long term deals didnt get them at first and got tagged. This isnt the first case of something like this ever happening.

He definitely isnt a cancer in the lockerroom and is the closest thing in attitude towards winning that we've had since Irvin was here.

That said, in your (obviously biased) opinion, what would constitute a trade worth doing for him?

I'm not claiming it's definitely the truth. Sturm is the one who claimed it, and he has better connections than any of us.

If you'll read you'll see I didn't say he is a cancer. "Attitude towards winning" is more like, attitude towards me me me IMO.

That is a very good question and all I am saying is it would seem prudent for Stephen or Jerruh to explore that option - especially if Dez really is one of the top three players in the entire league, as you asserted. I don't happen to think he is. And with that said if they announced a deal that sends Dez and Murray to Minnesota for Adrian Peterson and their 1st and 2nd round draft picks this year, plus their 1st rounder next year, I'd be ecstatic - and such a trade would also prove you right.

Yes that would be a big risk. But little risked, little rewarded.

You actually think Dez is gonna make nicey nicey and play ball if we franchise him?

Why does even the very thought of exploring trade options for him - NOT a proposal to actually DO such a deal mind you - upset people so much? They should explore it.

It will never enter their mind because like you, they're in love with him. I don't happen to be so afflicted.

I'm not really all that concerned with who put the information out there...

But you can't deny that they are doing something different with Dez. I agree they would normally pay him handsomely. But they haven't yet. It's not just a coincidence that they haven't paid him and these rumors are floating around.

As of this moment, I think Dez would play under the franchise tag and not sulk. If it gets out that the Cowboys are behind this, then all bets are off.

None of us really know what offers are on the table. I'm sure Bryant is asking for alot and I'm sure the Cowboys are trying to be somewhat prudent with the cap situation. None of that means there is a conspiracy. Teams try to get long term deals with their guys all the time but cant and then have to use the tag. It doesnt mean they dont want to keep the person.

Of course we don't know what offers are on the table. But the team has publicly stated that they haven't had much, if any, contact with Condon. It doesn't even sound like they are negotiating at this point.

And again, I've never said there is a conspiracy, or that the team doesn't want to keep Dez. All I'm saying is they normaly would have already signed him... probably before last season if things were business as usual here. But it's not business as usual. Reasons why are probably a combination of Stephen being completely in control of negotiations and is a hardball negotiator, and that the team is spooked by the rumors out there.

His agents were fine with Dez signing an extremely team-friendly deal, but Dez thought better of it. I don't blame him.

I'd tell Dez that he can have a team friendly deal NOW, and in 10 years when he's broke and only has a set of gold plated 22"s on a 86' Pontiac, I'll hook him up with $10mil on the sly.

Another huge part of this is the availability of the franchise tag. The franchise tag is a great option for the team in this instance. It is an attractive option for the team.

One way to think of this negotiation is that it is up to Dez and his representatives to provide an offer to the Cowboys that's even more attractive to the team than the franchise tag. That's probably how Stephen is looking at this situation.

As others have said, I don't think that the Cowboys benefit from the rumors and so I also don't believe that the leak is strategic or part of a conspiracy.

It could be that there is an immature gossipmonger somewhere in the organization who is saying stupid stuff. That's always a possibility in organizations of any size.

Lancaster City officials say no video exists from this incident.

I would assume they haven't ever seen the video or this wouldn't have been so hush hush. Not sure this makes it impossible there's a video, I suppose one of the guys there could have taped it, and didn't notify the police. Then he and Dez had a falling out and he lost his incentive to keep it on the DL.

Absolutely... If I were Dez and found out the team leaked it, I would never play another down for them. Not signing any form of extension. If they franchise me, I'm holding out all year if I have to.

Would you still participate in mock drafts as Cowboys' GM?
