Dez Bryant tweeted Monday night that his right foot surgery "went great" and he "can't wait to get back."

Jason Garrett and team officials announced Bryant will be out four-to-six weeks, but sources concede he could be out for up to eight weeks.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gave the latest Tuesday morning.

"It takes a bone six weeks to fully recover," Jones explained on 105.3 The Fan's New School show [KRLD-FM]. "We've had players with foot injuries that did not wait until the six weeks period of time before they were functional and before they were able to play.

"He'll be able to be conditioning, things of that nature, as early as two to three weeks into his rehab. The facts are it's just that, no one knows. It has to do with the individual. The repair went well, so Dez is of course Superman when it comes to being physical, but on the other hand, we want it to repair well."

The injury snaps a 63-game regular season streak of starts for the All-Pro wide receiver. Losing an outside threat that draws a double team on most plays is obviously a significant blow. The Cowboys are currently searching for a player to add depth at the position.

"I'm just disappointed," Jones said. "But the thing is, I guess I've been in football since I was five-years-old, so I've always known that you never get the hand to play with that you got on paper and you're always having to make adjustments. That's what this is."

Falcons WR Roddy White thinks Dez Bryant could be out longer than expected

By Jon Machota Follow @jonmachota jmachota@dallasnews.com

Although it should be noted that Roddy White is not a doctor, the Atlanta Falcons wide receiver had a surprising take on Dez Bryant's foot injury during a Tuesday interview on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio.

The four-time Pro Bowler, who will face the Cowboys in Week 3, was asked on the "Going Deep" show if he thinks Bryant will be back on the field in 2015. Dallas' All-Pro receiver had surgery Monday to repair a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot.

"I don't think so," White said. "Matter of fact, me and Julio [Jones] were talking about the whole situation and he was like, when he heard that he broke his foot he was like, 'He's got the same injury I got.' And, you know, we had to shut [Julio] down for the whole entire year.

"So I just don't see him making it back this year. Or if he does make it back it will probably be late in the playoffs, so it'll probably be around January. But it's still a risk. Anytime you are coming off a foot injury, you know, he's not going to be running or anything like that.

"It'll be weeks before he can actually apply any kind of pressure onto it or even start walking around. So he's got a long haul ahead of him so he's got to be patient with this thing. Plus he just signed a new contract so he's got to be as patient as possible and just kind of take it easy."

The Cowboys are expecting Bryant to be out four-to-six weeks with the possibility of it stretching to eight weeks. Jones missed 11 games in 2013 after fracturing the same foot he had surgery on in 2011.

"It takes a bone six weeks to fully recover," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan's New School show [KRLD-FM]. "We've had players with foot injuries that did not wait until the six weeks period of time before they were functional and before they were able to play.

"He'll be able to be conditioning, things of that nature, as early as two to three weeks into his rehab. The facts are it's just that, no one knows. It has to do with the individual. This injury really sucks. Dez is my favorite Cowboy. I hate losing him for the season.

But next man up. Romo's always been a king maker (Miles, Laurent, Crayton, etc). Its time for him to work his magic.

Very possibly so.

It'll be interesting to see how long it takes him to cut into Devin Streets playing time.

This is going to depend to a good measure, on the patient's discipline. Can he stay off the fucking thing, and not torque it or tweak it, rip screws out, and so on. Infection avoidance is critical as well.

I'm not sure how much I trust this patient's discipline, his passion and energy work against him in this regard.

there might not be much of a season to salvage by the time he's healed

Hope he's not out longer than 8 weeks but if he is, nothing we can do about it. Sux for us and for the rest of the team though.

I think the problem we are going to run into is Dez trying to come back too soon and re injuring his foot. I just don't see him listening to the trainers and doctors. He's going to want to come back as soon as possible. Especially if we lose a couple games. Then he will want to be back on the field to help his team!

I just hope that someone will keep him off his foot for as long as it is needed and not let him extend or worsen the injury

Thats my concern as well, hope some "Laurent Robinsons" emerge in his absence and Escobar breaks out, the running game improves and the offense manages to hum without him so that will further reduce the pressure to push him back early, plus when he comes back, defensive coordinators will have a nightmare to deal with.

Obviously, I'm in dream land wishing for all the above to happen but what the hell, may as well shoot for the stars

I'm afraid the reality is that its going to force Romo to do too much and the team will revert back to the frustrating team we watched during the end of the Wade era and the multiple 8-8 seasons but I'm always pessimistic as hell, so hopefully this doesn't happen

the biggest bummer is that Romo only has so many quality years left. would be a shame if this season was wasted due to Dez.

Plus it's a complex repair, infection prevention is really key.

yes it is

I'm sure it was a foregone conclusion that Dez had to be re-signed but I always wondered what they could have done with his cap space and draft picks had they traded him. Would they have been better off with 3 or 4 players, who knows, it would be an interesting thing to evaluate.

I'm not knocking Dez, I just hate being beholden to these players with huge contracts because its almost a certainty they will get hurt at some point. The only position I think you absolutely have to pay is QB, for obvious reasons.

Things i was thinking about and talking about when it seemed to be in question if we were gonna get married to him or not.

But, the deed is done. Just like the Bobby Bare song "The Winner" says, "We got 'er Boy, and that makes us the winner?"

Welcome to The U, Scot.

Thx Doomsday, glad to have found this place!

I work with a couple Philly fools and all I hear about is how Chip is a genius. I'm looking forward to stomping the Eagles in week 8 when everyone is healthy! I just hope we can get the win tomorrow with Dez injured and our pass rush crippled with both Gregory and Hardy out for four more weeks so I don't have to hear $%!/ talk from them for the next 7 weeks.
