Needless to say, unpleasant game pretty much all the way around. Romo's injury is the ultimate downer, as the visual post hit swelling was really bad. Hopefully he can heal enough in time for the game, because we need him.

Nothing real positive about this game. OL was probably the worst weve seen all year, and defensively the game looked almost excatly like the first match up with Philly. The only good things were Ware's two sacks and Carter's blocked punt. For those that werent familar with him or saw him play much in college, blocking kicks is something Carter has a real knack for. I think he had 8 or 9 in his career at UNC.

1) When Romo got hurt I knew our chances of winning were slim. I've read a few stories today about how McGee was disappointing or hurt his chances to be the #2 guy next yr, but the people that wrote those columns seem to just reiterate what I have said all along, that they dont know shit about the game. McGee was not the problem vs Philly, pass protection was. I thought he showed pretty well, and if the protection would have been there he could have definitely made some plays downfield, they were there. Considering he has gotten no time with the starters this yr and had to come in on a whim, I think the staff would probably say they're pretty pleased with his play. He threw a coupe of poor passes, but for the most part made good decisions and made several plays with his legs.

2) Good decision to yank Felix Jones once they knew the game was meaningless. It was encouraging that he didnt seem limited or slowed by the hamstring, hopefully he'll be at or close to 100% for Sunday.

3) OL was flat out terrible, all 5 of them. Tyron Smith has had a great year and probably deserves to go to the Probowl, but I thought this was his worst game. Free was awful, and the interior of the OL was eaten alive. By far the worst showing of the year IMO. For those that believed the team might ignore the interior OL next yr, I think this game is a prime example of why we wont. We dont know what we have in Nagy and Arkin yet, although I do like what Kowalski has shown. I dont know that either Holland or Kosier will be back.

4) Defense, ugh. The 2nd half was better than the first half, but its hard to say how much of that was because Philly wasnt all that interested anymore or how much was good adjustments. They definitely seemed more aggressive in the 2nd half but the results were still mediocre at best. I dont even know how many plays Vick had an eterity to throw, but it was alot. I guess the one positive defensively is they did a far better job on McCoy this time than last time, he only had 35 yds rushing and averaged less than 3.0 yds per carry. But the pass rush was terrible, especially in the first half.

5) Seems like a weekly comment for me, but Abe Elam is garbage at FS. He is now up to 15 straight games here without a pass defensed and just looked hopeless down field in coverage. With guys like him, Brooking and James on the field its like we are playing 8 against the other teams 11. One thing that bothers me about Ryan is that it seems most of the worst players are guys he really likes (Elam, Brooking, Walker, Coleman)

6) Hopefully Sean Lee's hamstring issue will be good, we are definitely hopeless without him on the field. I dont know if he'll make the probowl this yr, but if he doesnt it isnt because he didnt deserve it, its because of the quality of the talent at ILB in the NFC. Kid has had a great year.

7) It wouldnt have mattered anyway, but the officiating in this game was terrible, and it was incredibly biased against us again. There were seevral mind numbingly stupid calls and non calls in this game.

8) That 3rd and 1 call with the quick pitch to Morris and having Bryant motioning in was not only the worst play call of the yr IMO but one of the more poorly designed plays I have ever seen. That play should be yanked from the playbook completely.

9) I think if we lose to NYG and Philly wins, we'd be the 3rd place team in the NFC East. That means in addition to the NFC East, AFC North and NFC South our two other games would be at home vs Chicago and at Arizona or Seattle.

I dont know if we beat the Giants or not, my gut feeling says we wont, but with this team you just dont know what you'll get. If Romo is healthy and has a big game we could win, because the Giants are really no better than us. That said, I expect us to lose. It just isnt our year, too many injuries, too many other positions we need to upgrade. But I do think there's light at the end of the tunnel and unlike some of the recent seasons, we wont be sitting out free agency next year. We do have some good talent at a number of positions, but they need to further upgrade the interior OL, and add another player oat FDL, OLB and free safety. Need to work on CB depth as well.

McGee holds on to the ball to long he does not look natural in the pocket.

If the 1st read is not there he looks lost.

The one play where McGee flipped it to Sammy Morris, 2nd quarter, 3rd and long I believe, it looked like if he had waited a second or two after he stepped up and escaped the rush, that there were a couple of guys outside separating from the DBs that he didn't even look to.

If there is a huge difference between the good QBs and the JAGs, is what's constantly pointed out by the announcers when Romo makes a play. That the good ones are able to look downfield when they're moving up in the pocket under duress and find those exact plays under those same circumstances. McGee relies too much on his checkdowns. But other than that, he has all the tools. That one pass to Miles Austin was a really good throw, where he laid it out to Austin's outside, and low enough for only Austin to be able to dip down and grab it.

Can McGee move past JAG status, even though he possesses the necessary physical traits? That remains to be seen, but it's been 3 years already and he hasn't thus far.

He has a serious case of tunnel-vision.

and dbair, I like how you notice how horrible Elam is, but forget to mention that Sensabaugh is terrible in games too. You constantly glance over that fact when he's been the protagonist on some very bad plays in the same games.

How do we know Elam sucks? Just because you don’t see him, doesn’t mean he not doing what is being asked of him. I would think evaluating safety play is the trickiest because you don’t always know their assignment.

I'm just speaking to the fact that dbair sees that Elam sucks, but makes no mention of Sensabaugh sucking too. In the same game.

He might be right about Elam. I don’t know. Personally i can’t tell because he is rarely in the picture. Sensabaugh is your personal whipping boy since he resigned a few weeks ago. lol

The boys held the Eagles to 20 points...

I think it was a great game for a 3rd string QB, a 34 year old RB that had been sitting on his couch 2 weeks ago, not having a real C or and Gs to speak of, and only have 3 1/2 starters on defence. I'm proud to be a fan of this team.

I hadn't even taken into consideration how we could fall from 1st to third with a loss and Eagles win. I think the Eagles will win.

That would help our draft position, but I don't think the third place schedule would make much of a difference. Chicago, with Cutler, is probably just as good (or better) than Detroit. This year, anyway, who knows about next. And we always struggle when we play at either AZ or Seattle anyway.

Of the reserves that got on the field... was there anyone who caught anyones eye? The Carter kick block was nice, but how did he look in the base defense (assuming he got in). I was mostly disinterested in this game once the Giants won, Romo went out, and our defense started off horrid again, so I'm really interested in what some of you think.

Bennett seemed to make a few plays. Too little, too late though. I think I started a thread, or at least said in a post, that I anticipated him having a big year for us this season. That stemmed from him once saying he met with Garrett and the off season and was excited about the upcoming year. I took that as Garrett relaying to him that he was going to be somewhat of a focal point of our offense. Or we would at least design some plays, packages for him.

Maybe with the emergence of Robinson, we changed plans. Nevertheless, Bennett once again hasn't distinguished himself this year and I'd be shocked/disappointed if we resigned him.

Would've been 27 had Avant not had a flukey touchback.

And truth be told, it appeared to me that the Eagles kinda seemed disinterested later in the game.

Strangely, I agree with this write up, my only gripe would be the way you came down on Elam.

It may not be saying much, but he's been a lot better than anything we've had at fs in years, IMO. It seems like every year for the last 5 or 6 years, we've seen our safeties get a lot of camera time during games. Not so much this year.

Are you gay in real life too?
