Former NFL safety Darren Sharper has been connected to rape investigations in five states.

NBC News reported that Sharper turned himself in to police late Thursday night in Los Angeles after a warrant was issued for his arrest earlier in the day in New Orleans.

An acquaintance of Sharper's, Erik Nunez, also is facing two charges of aggravated rape in the incident, which police in Louisiana said occurred at an apartment on Sept. 23, 2013. Nunez was booked on two counts of rape Friday morning in New Orleans.

Earlier this month, Sharper was charged with seven felonies in Los Angeles related to cases in which he's accused of drugging and raping two women he met at nightclubs. He pleaded not guilty to those charges.

Sharper also is under investigation in sexual assault cases in Florida, Nevada and Arizona.

If convicted in California, Sharper could face more than 30 years in state prison. If convicted of aggravated rape in Louisiana, both Sharper and Nunez, 26, would face life imprisonment.

Sharper, 38, was selected All-Pro six times and chosen for the Pro Bowl five times. He played in two Super Bowls, one with the Green Bay Packers as a rookie and a second with the New Orleans Saints. He retired after the 2010 season, having played 14 years in the NFL, and is an analyst for NFL Network, which has suspended him indefinitely without pay.

You're an NFL player, you're getting pussy on easy-mode? I've gone my entire life without being seriously tempted to rape anyone, what's the issue?

My problem with the story is he always picks up drunk women at the bar and takes them home, then he drugs and rapes them... Wait, what, why? He already accomplished the only difficult part, convincing the drunk slutty women to come home with him, after that is accomplished it doesn't seem like much to slip it in.

You should never rape. . .unless you want to have sex with someone and they won't let you.

or whatever Louis CK said.

That's nice.
Rich guy accused of a crime: they wait until he surrenders.
Any on else accused of a crime: brutally dragged out of their daily lives with a knee on the back of their necks.

As to why he does it, some people just enjoy being evil.

That happens all the time VTA... The warrant was issued earlier the same day in a different state. Most attorneys have their clients turn themselves in if they're aware of the warrant being signed. It would have probably been weeks to get a governor's warrant, have Sharper arrested, then if he fought extradition, etc. Much easier to just turn yourself in, post the bond and go on your way.

Is it because he was in a different state? I remember when Michael Jackson was accused he had to turn himself in too.
If someone accuses me of rape, isn't the protocol for the police to come and retain me?

It all depends... sometimes the police give someone who is cooperating with them the chance to turn themselves in, and if the person isn't cooperating, then they will make a big show of arresting them. I think Aaron Hernandez turned himself in too.

Really most defense attorneys who get hired before a defendant is arrested will be in constant communication with the authorities. If the cops know an attorney is involved they can't cooperate with the defendant directly, and most defense attorney will tell the cops to let them know if a warrant is issued. It often leads to a defendant turning themselves in once a warrant is issued.

How many former Packers are involved in some sort of rape charges?

Remember how ESPN spewed off about how classy an organization the Packers were in the 90's and early 2000's?
