Some of the Dallas Cowboys’ top performers and biggest underachievers have been obvious through two games.
Defensive tackle Jason Hatcher has routinely caused problems for opposing offensive lines and injured cornerback Morris Claiborne has struggled to perform like a top 10 draft pick.
But how do the Cowboys stack up against the rest of the NFL at each position through two games?
Well, ProFootballFocus.com’s player rankings are one way of getting an idea.
For example, no Cowboy has a higher ranking than Hatcher and no one has a lower grade than right guard Mackenzy Bernadeau.
Here are some other notable grades.
OFFENSE
– Doug Free is rated the Cowboys’ best offensive player and the seventh-best offensive tackle in the league.
– Of 68 offensive guards graded, only five rank lower than Bernadeau.
– Dez Bryant is tied for 20th among NFL wide receivers.
– Tony Romo is 12th among quarterbacks.
– Travis Frederick ranked 31 out of 34 NFL centers.
– Gavin Escobar is ranked (22nd) higher than Jason Witten (37th).
– DeMarco Murray is eighth among all running backs.
DEFENSE
– Of 74 defensive tackles in the NFL, only Detroit’s Ndamukong Suh has a higher grade than Hatcher.
– Claiborne holds the Cowboys’ worst individual defensive grade and ranks 92 out of 94 NFL corners.
– Among 50 4-3 defensive ends, DeMarcus Ware is eighth and George Selvie is 10th.
– Justin Durant (17th) is ranked higher than Bruce Carter (24th) among outside linebackers in a 4-3 defense.
– Barry Church is the league’s second-highest rated safety, trailing only New York’s Ryan Mundy.
SPECIAL TEAMS
– Dan Bailey is the highest rated kicker in the NFL.
NOTABLES FROM SUNDAY:
– Romo had a QB rating of 141.3 when throwing to Bryant.
– Although Carter deflected a couple of Alex Smith passes and had a critical fourth-quarter sack that pushed Kansas City out of field-goal range, he struggled in pass coverage. Carter allowed two first-down receptions and was responsible for the Dwayne Bowe touchdown grab.
– Selvie received the Cowboys’ highest grade in run defense. Carter received the lowest.
