so i think anyone with common sense would agree that its pretty much a lock at this point that mccarthy will not be here in february, and hopefully, most of his staff will be gone too

i created the thread to keep track of cowboys related coaching changes, probes for replacements, and whatever else that could be related

Want nothing to do with Kingsbury unless he can somehow force a Prescott for Daniels trade with it.

Saleh for DC, yeah would love that. HC. No.

Hopefully whomever is the new HC will bring with him a stud OL coach. The team has a couple or few players with potential.
Solari is/was and will continue to be the Mike Nolan of oline coaches. What a freakin dinosaur waste.
Week after week after week. smdh.
Pathetic.

If the next coach can't be Belichick/Vrabel and Kellen Moore lacks the "I'm the boss" demeaner needed to be a HC, then take a college coach. Go to someone in the college ranks who has an intimate knowledge of the top talent in college, who has the personality needed to be in Dallas.

Kirby Smart, anyone? Dbair?

Kirby Smart would be exactly what the doctor ordered for us, but I can't imagine he'll ever leave Georgia. They can EASILY pay him anything he wants and he can probably waltz into the Governor's office one day when he doesnt feel like kicking kids asses anymore.

I've been fortunate enough to have a couple of friends in high places that have sent me audio of a few of his pregame or halftime speeches, they are Jimmy-esque for sure.

McCarthy has not had a good OL coach since he has been here, it's definitely a priority to get a good one with the next staff. We have some talented kids up front, but the blocking scheme and the techniques they are currently being taught appear to be complete shit.

Well, Jerry prides himself on his salesmanship, so you never know. The allure of bringing the Cowboys a SB might be hard to pass up. Then he could become governor of TX too.

But yes, I've heard Smart probably will not leave GA and the program and culture he has built.

I think it has more to do with calling far too many pass plays. I think if they stuck to the run more it would really help the OL in pass blocking.

They are scared shitless that the game will get away from them too quickly if they go 3 and out, and that tells me they have very little confidence in the D too.

They didnt have much of a chance to really "establish" the run in games v the Saints, Ravens, Lions, Niners, Eagles or even the Texans.

It also doesnt do them any good to call more runs if they cant open any holes. The blocking scheme is terrible and of course they hurt themselves by having called 55 runs for #15. He shouldnt have half that total.

I think back to when Parcells had Joe Morris and later OJ Anderson. I recall Parcells running a lot, especially when the game was on the line. I'd say it was 60/40 run/pass.

But the reason they were able to do that is because they developed a run first mentality. It didn't happen in one game, or two games, or three. Their OL became good at run blocking because they ran the ball. What I am saying is it's hard to run block with the necessary demeanor if the OL is dropping backwards to pass block so much.

It's like Jimmy said, you need to be stubborn and work on establishing it even if it is not working. Even if you lose the game (even if you lose more than one game), you're developing the mentality needed for the next game and next season.

I really believe that when you are trying to create a culture, an identity, you have to be willing to risk losing to establish the type of identity you want. Eventually it breaks your way, assuming you continue to add the right pieces. It won't break if the drafts suck.

Like the "Great Wall" sucked at first. Tuinei, Nate, Gogan were once considered jokes (if my memory is right).

I looked up the stats for the rushing yard in Moose's rookie year (before they got Emmitt). Jimmy's first year as HC.

Tommie Agee: 309 yards
Daryl Johnston: 212 yards
Paul Palmer: 446 yards (acquired mid-season)

Even with those backs, Jimmy ran 300 times and passed 513 times. This would be with Troy and Walsh as rookie QBs. This would be a 3:5 ratio.

I did the math, so far, for the 2024 season, the Cowboys are passing 66% of the time. So it's 2 passes for every 1 run. This would be fine if our QB play was on par with Troy's.

In short, we are passing far too much! It's okay to lose. As long as you're building toward something. But it is not okay to lose when you have no philosophy, you're just trying whatever you think will work to win the game, and you still lose.

I think Bryan Broaddus and others are missing the point. We do not want the Cowboys players and coaching staff to tank. We want to see a no quit attitude. HOWEVER, a real GM would say, "hmmm, I am not going anywhere this year, so let me see if I can unload some cap, maybe pick up picks, etc. The players always have to play their hardest.

Again, Jerry has no long term strategy. When Jimmy traded Herschel, he had a vision. He knew the Cowboys would suck hard for a while, but he had a vision of turning them around. I think I can argue that when Jimmy traded Herschel (and I know Jerry was part of that) that Jimmy, in essence, tanked the season.

That doesn't mean that Jimmy didn't coach hard and demand the best from his players. Tanking doesn't mean telling the coach not to coach his best or telling the players not to try hard. I mean, your GM is the one getting paid the big bucks to make the hard choices to put the team in the best position possible to emerge dominant.

Sure, Bryan is right. You could draft Jamarcus Russell. That's true. You can also draft Troy Aikman. But you are not going to do either with the 30th pick. And as I wrote earlier, there are other rounds too.

People who are invested heavily in this team could really care less about having a good record. That's old! We want a team like the Chiefs have. Chiefs fans have a real shot, so do the Lions, etc. The GM has to make bold moves to make that happen.

IMHO, the "he won a Super Bowl" line is giving McCarthy too much credit. He got lucky in that he had key players come back in the nick of time.

That was when Garrett had a shitload of injuries and everyone was saying that Garrett "can't coach through injuries. Look at McCarthy, he did it". But I kept saying that if McCarthy had some magical way of coaching through injuries and winning the Super Bowl, then why isn't he doing it now?

In fact, McCarthy never did it again. It was all AARON RODGERS! Speaking of Rodgers, I can't believe what has happened to him in NY. But I'd still take Rodgers over Dak.

The other thing that McCarthy gets too much credit for is going 12-4. He was left with some very nice pieces. He didn't inherit a total rebuild and a good chunk of those wins were a result of the defense. I'm not giving McCarthy credit for the defense.

Let's stop making excuses (I know nobody on here is). There is something deeply wrong with the Cowboys way, and it needs to change.

Doesn't matter who the next head coach is, as long as Jerry's upright they'll be coaching blindfolded with their hands duct taped behind their backs.
