Explain what these mean then? Sounds like you believe Smith is the variable factor between us winning and losing games.
If you look further, you'll see where I also said Smith is HELPING to let the line come together. Never have I said or implied that he is the one reason we are winning games, as you are saying I am.
And I'll stick with what I've said. Smith is playing very well, and it helps the line to do it's job as a whole. We've had very good skill position players the last 5 or 6 years. And what has it got us? At best, we've had servicable Olines. If they don't open holes, or passblock it's pretty hard to have a succesful offense.
And as far as the last line you bolded, it is just what it says. If we have no line, we aren't in position to win games. Meaning our offensive line would allow us to have a productive offense. To control the clock. To score enough to win. And if we're not doing that, if we're behind in games, we won't be able to run as much. Or have as many opporunties at FGs, much less game winning FGs. As we've seen our Oline get better at pass blocking this year, we've seen Romo play under more control. Which in turn results in less turnovers. And that line is getting better at run blocking. Still needs work, as it still stalls. Especially without Fiametta in there. But with that run game going, it also helps Romo and the rest. And it all starts with the Oline.
We've been able to score points in the past. But never really been able to control the game. It's been a long time since we could lean on the running game to close out a game. Instead, we've still passed the ball when up late in the game. And we've seen how that has bit us in the ass on more then one occasion.
So, no. I wasn't saying Smith was THE variable factor in us winning or losing games. But he is a very important piece to one of them that is.
If you think Murray is doing well this year, I'd say just wait. If we were to get better in the interior of the line, I think he'd really look like a monster. Which in turn would make our passing game more dangerous. And for both of those things to happen, it all starts up front.
