He wouldn't even get an interview.
Double U Tee Eff?
You're not supposed to answer, dood.
He wouldn't even get an interview.
I agree on the ego thing.
I also believe that virtually any skill can be learned given enough time.
Jerry has been at this a long time. And he didn't come into this a football "virgin". He played in college.
After spending the last 20-some years working with a variety of football people, some good, some not so good, he's no doubt picked up a lot a long the way.
He's made a lot of mistakes over the years. But he's not stupid. He's no doubt learned a great deal too.
Jerry tries pushing the envelope too far. His aggressiveness gets him into trouble... Oh along with his loyalty.
I see the mega-mistakes the various GM's have made in Buffalo over the last decade or so, including so called "smart" football people like Donahoe, Marv Levy and the latest Buddy Nix, I would have a very difficult time calling Jerry the worst GM in football.
And what also can't be disputed is there is no more important person in a football franchise than the GM. Get that right and the rest will follow.
And now you know why I hate, Hate, HATE Jerry.
Not sure thats true, normally if a team (in any sport) has lousy ownership then the team is going to suck. If the guy is only concerned with the bottom line and being cheap, he wont put a quality product on the field.
I thought Jerry did an awful job from 1994-2002. He hired 3 arse clowns as head coaches and made repeatedly bad personnel moves. Then he grew up and changed. Once he hired Parcells things got better. (Not that I think Parcells was a success as a HC, but it was absolutely the right move to bring in the guy to turn around the entire front office, scouting etc etc). I understand why he hired Wade too. Not saying the guy is great or anything, but I understand his logic in why he picked him, and it was fairly sound logic.
And despite the 0-2 start, you cant argue that the team doesnt have a tremendous amount of talent up and down the roster. Ultimately the #1 jobs of the GM are to hire a quality coaching staff and put a talented team on the field, and I think we have that right now. Its just underperforming, and thats not really Jerry's fault.

I see our only weakness is the O-line. We need to revamp, and get back to the old days of pounding the rock.
I think we'll see 3, and maybe even 4 different starters next yr. I'm reasonably sure Colombo and Kosier are gone (Kosier is in the last yr of his deeal) and Gurode and Davis would have to be pretty good this yr to justify keeping them at their cap charges for next yr.
Free is pretty good though. You can build the rest of the OL around him. We should be set at LT for the next half dozen or so years with him.

That's the scary part after Free there's a huge drop off. We might need to sign a couple of linemen in the off season to replace the ones we lose.
There's not a huge drop off after Free. He's just the best of a horrible bunch of recently home grown players. Gurode and Davis are better players than him.
Doug Free is a JAG LT. Decent. Okay. Kinda just there. We can do much better.
You didn't think he did a terrible job. He did do a terrible job. That's him unchecked relying on his own ability to GM a team. There is no more damning evidence than that. The guy doesn't know personnel.
Explain to me this "fairly sound logic" in hiring Wade. Because from here all I see is an egomaniac owner eagerly hiring a puppet head coach whose never won a damn thing in his career.
I'd love to hear how hiring a loser makes sense.
I'd suggest a few lip smacks and reallys with that banquet of bullshat.
Wade did ok in Denver, and had a really good record in Buffalo. If not for a fluke special teams play, they might have been the AFC champs instead of Tennessee that yr. And IIRC, it wasnt Wade's idea to replace Flutie with Rob Johnson.
The reason I said I understood the logic in hiring Wade here is because Jones felt like the defense had most of the pieces in place to be dominant, and wanted the best 3-4 defensive coach there was. I dont have a problem with that. He is highly regarded for his defensive expertise. Plus Wade had been a HC and had won. Maybe not championships, but he was a winning coach.
He was hired because he made it comfortable for Jerry to run everything from jocks to socks again.
The talent was back, thanks to the all timer.
