It once looked like OLG Kyle Kosier's return to the Cowboys was unlikely this offseason. But the longer the lockout has lingered, the greater the chances have become of him returning. That becomes especially true if the salary cap is lower than expected — say $120 million or south of there — because it will increase the likelihood of Leonard Davis and his massive contract being cut. The Cowboys already know that rookie ORT Tyron Smith has been affected negatively by the lockout, and they still have to face re-signing OLT Doug Free, last season's best lineman. So keeping as much continuity on the offensive line will be at a premium. Although getting a new deal for Free will be the tougher chore, finding enough money to bring back Kosier appears a higher priority. The fallback option would be giving Montrae Holland the first crack at starting at left guard, but that is not the most attractive option in the coaches' minds.

Why would continuity be so important when your line has been so bad? Who the hell wants to continue that?

Thank you.

For so long people were saying the same thing about safety. "Two new safeties? I dont know".

First of all, they sucked anyway. And second of all, its an entirely new defense and Sensabaugh knows it less than Elam.

Id replace the guard on the other side though.

He's a dependable player when he is out there, I wouldnt be overly aggressive in keeping him though. If we can keep him for a nice cap figure then its fine, but beyond that I'm not sure he's worth keeping.

At a reasonable cap figure - and a can't imagine there'd be a huge market for him - I think he'd be a great re-sign.

He plays well for us. Very underrated. One of Parcells best FA signings, IMO. And he's probably got just enough gas in the tank to allow us to transition to a younger player (Arkin, perhaps) in a year or two.

His contract would likely have an easy out at the end of next season or the year after. At his age I would envision his mindset is to play this out about 2 more years in the income tax-free state Ive lived in the past 5 years. Maybe a 3rd year as a swing backup.

Not really a player or contract Ive spent much time on. Neither is the safety position as I see a few nice options. Im more concerned about them dumping Igor and getting Jenkins and bringing back Bowen or Spears. I think theres a lot of mistakes to be made at DL

How about giving the younger guys a shot..? Do we just draft to let people sit the pine for a few years then leave to contribute on other teams (Stephen Peterman,Anthony Fasono etc..)

Not only is Igor useless as a pass rusher, hes been getting thrown around like a rag doll in the run game. Not to mention he signed for something in the range of 4/17M. His production is similar to an UDFA type. Just like Leonard Davis its like.....why the fuck are they paying so much for such terrible play?

I just feel like for years now Spears has held up pretty well in the run game. Id take that production out of my 5 tech every day.

Spears is better. I think Igor had a down year though. But I don't think the difference between the two is dramatic, where I want to shatcan one, and make signing the other a priority.

Given the underrated need for improved pressure I dont see how starting Igor is going to help at all.

Its not all Ware, Spencer, and scheme. You can always double Ware and the QB knows to watch him and step up in the pocket if need be. They need more from their DL and thats why I want Cullen Jenkins who can get up the field. Igor is the worst of Bowen, Hatcher, and Spears yet hes paid handsomely.

Cullen is too expensive.

If it's pressure you want from the end, move Ratliff there and start Brent at NT.

I wouldn't even say Spears is better against the run. Igor is a rock anchoring against the run, and while he doesn't get too much pressure, he fills his role of anchoring while allowing D Ware to have the space he needs to rack up big sack numbers year after year.

My opinioin, is that Igor has always been a solid guy, but after this past season he is getting a bad rap with fans because of that one play where he showed some energy towards the end of the game when we were behind. Its silly really.. how many people were all uppity over that one play.

I honestly don't care if Kosier comes back or not... We could fill his void with another guard outta FA and wouldn't notice a difference.

LD showed improvement and started getting back to form by the end of the season.. I think it would be a mistake to cut him right now. I'd love to see us restructure his deal and keep him with us for another year.

The bigger problem comes at the tackle position. If Free prices himself too high we need to look elsewhere.
