With guard Nate Livings missing practice Thursday because of knee soreness, the Cowboys are down to just four healthy players at guard and center going into Sunday's preseason opener against the Dolphins.

It's such a concern to the Cowboys that they are working out two offensive lineman today in hopes of signing them to contracts.

"We are worried of course," vice president Stephen Jones said. "Having this many guys injured that's why we are bringing guys in every time you turn around. We are not concerned for the long haul. But it's concerning because we got to play preseason games."

Jones said the Cowboys are concentrating on young players right now but would not rule out bringing in a veteran guard prospect at some point.

"We got our eyes on every thing that will help our football team," Jones said. "But no one in particular."

The list of healthy interior players the Cowboys had a practice on Thursday morning were centers Travis Frederick and Phil Costa and guards Ronald Leary and David Arkin.

Sidelined along with Livings are: guard Kevin Kowalski (knee), center Ryan Cook (back), guard Ray Dominguez (shoulder) and guard Mackenzy Bernadeau, who has been on the physically unable to perform list since the start of camp with a hamstring injury.

No it will be right before week one, he'll play a game, then we'll cut him and owe him his salary for the rest of the season.

Camp bodies, dickhead.

You expect us to find a Pro Bowler walking the streets this time of year?

I expect us to not go into Training Camp with thin as hell Offensive and Defensive lines.

I know. How ridiculous of me.

Ok, this is good.

The front office actually knows the offensive line exists.

What if we drafted Floyd? How do you guys feel about that now? Fuck.

If we had drafted Floyd, we wouldn't have Frederick and Williams. So instead of people complaining about the lack of DL help, it would be OL. Six of one, half dozen of the other. I don't blame them for passing on Floyd for the trade down. I'm ok with that. What pisses me off is the 2nd round TE (AGAIN!) and not addressing the DL then. Or even in later rounds.

@SullyBaldHead: Hearing that the Nate Livings knee injury is more serious than day-to-day. Could even be a season-long issue.

Blessing in disguise

Cowboys Down To Four Interior Offensive Linemen For Game Against Dolphins

Offensive guard Nate Livings didn't participate in this morning's walkthrough due to a sore knee, and, as Jason Garrett put it in today's press conference, because "he’s kind of managing his way through a couple different deals" that could keep him out for up to two weeks

Compounding the situation for the Cowboys is the fact that Livings is the fifth interior lineman who's out due to injury: Starting right guard Mackenzy Bernadeau is likely out until next week, Kevin Kowalski bruised his knee earlier this week and is likely out for two to four weeks, and both Ray Dominguez (shoulder) and OG/OC Ryan Cook (back) are out as well.

That leaves the Cowboys with just four healthy interior linemen who can suit up on Sunday: Ron Leary, Phil Costa, Travis Frederick and David Arkin are all that is left at the moment. All four will therefore get extended playing time, though Garrett hasn't finalized those details yet:

"We haven’t had those specific conversations about the exact playing time that each of these guys are going to have in this game Sunday night. But we’ll have those conversations in the next couple of days."

Over the last few days, many Cowboys fans have been advocating an interior line of Leary - Frederick - Arkin, who together have a grand total of zero regular season snaps. For these three linemen, this could well be their trial by fire.

Because of the injury situation, the Cowboys are now looking to bring in some outside help, including but not limited to Brian Waters and local prospect James Nelson.

Per the Dallas Morning news, Stephen Jones has indicated the Cowboys will be bringing in two players for workouts today:

"Of course,’’ Jones said. "You have this many guys injured and you only have four healthy guys out there, I mean yeah, that’s why we’re bringing guys in every time you turn around.

We'll know later in the day who those two guys are.

[Update: 5:15 ET] And now we know who they brought in:
