Cowboys in need of blocking TE add a 235 LB pass catching TE because...well, take a guess...
IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys didn’t wait for training camp to make their next addition.
Tight end Dallas Walker is the newest player to sign with the Cowboys, joining the team Thursday, just a day after the Cowboys made their release of Kyle Orton official.
Walker went undrafted out of Western Michigan in 2012 and spent time with the Chargers in the 2013 offseason before getting released at the end of August.
In college, he spent time with Memphis and Georgia Military College before going to Western Michigan, where he had 16 catches for 102 yards and four touchdowns from 2009-11.
Jason Witten, Gavin Escobar, James Hanna and Jordan Najvar were the only tight ends on the Cowboys' roster, and none of them are particularly blocking specialists. They've carried players at the position in the past who have fit that role.
At 6-6 and more than 235 pounds, Walker adds size to the position and could offer a new dimension to the offense.
He’s got the bulk to make a difference as a blocker and could also compete on special teams. If nothing else, he adds depth to the position for training camp.
