It almost seems like blasphemy to consider, but would you trade him (Martin) if he won't play under his current deal?

He'll be 33 in November, he's still a superb/elite player, but do you pay him another 5-10 per yr (I think he is set yp make 13 or so this yr) at his age?

He's one of the real leaders on the team and works his ass off, his career stat line for avoiding holding penalties is almost unheard of. But with a tough cap situation and so many cornerstone guys needing new deals, it's something they might have to think about.

What would we get for him? What return would make this warranted? It definitely creates a potential major hole at RG and they'd almost assuredly have to sign a vet to replace him (for this year anyway)
i used spotrac and went back to 2010. no OL on zack martin's level gets traded... not even close

3/14/23 - HOU traded a 6th round pick to TB for guard shaq mason and a 7th rounder
8/22/22 - GB traded guard cole van lanen to JAX for a 7th rounder
8/22/22 - AZ traded a 5th round pick to BUF for guard cody ford
8/30/22 - PIT traded a 7th round pick to MIN for guard jesse davis
3/15/22 - NE traded guard shaq mason to TB for a 5th round pick
11/2/21 - KC traded guard laurent duvernay-tardif to NYJ for tight end daniel brown
8/31/21 - IND traded a 6th round pick to PHI for guard matt pryor and a 7th rounder
8/31/21 - BAL traded guard ben bredeson, a 5th rounder, and a 7th rounder to NYG for a 4th rounder
8/30/21 - CIN traded guard billy price to NYG for defensive tackle bj hill and a 7th rounder
4/27/21 - MIA traded guard ereck flowers and a 7th rounder to WAS for a 7th rounder
3/17/21 - SEA traded a 5th round pick to LV for gabe jackson
3/4/20 - CAR traded guard trai turner to LAC for left tackle russell okung

maybe a zack martin trade would be more comparable to trading for a tackle

4/23/21 - BAL traded left tackle orlando brown jr, a 2nd rounder, and a 6th rounder to KC for a 1st, 3rd, 4th, and a 5th
3/14/21 - HOU traded a 4th and 6th rounder to NE for right tackle marcus cannon, a 5th, and a 6th
3/9/21 - NE traded a 5th rounder to LV for right tackle trent brown and a 7th

Just don't touch Dak's contract to find the $. We know by now that he's not the guy and we're almost rid of him.

Kollman kinda acts like somehow Martin hasn't made any money, but he's made 66 million in new cash the last 5 seasons and he'll make 13.5 mils this yr. Martin didn't sign a contract for peanuts at the time, IIRC his deal reset the market itself.

Gehlken then uses new contracts signed after Martin's to seemingly justify that Martin is getting snubbed somehow.

What do they think the reasonable solution is here? Does every good player automatically deserve a new contract every time someone else signs a newer deal for more money?

Are players willing to go to a system where they sign 1 yr contracts every season? How bout a system where they have to refund money if they don't play to a certain level, does that sound good to them? (and yes, I know they'll respond to that by saying they can be cut anytime, but that's not entirely true either. Sometimes cap implications mean a guy CANT be released and they can hold the team hostage)

i searched for LT and RT too and im surprised tunsil didnt come up

i guess it would be the closest comp in recent history

even tho martin is the better player, more pro bowls, more all pro's, and a little older but no bullshit off the field either

that said i dont think a team would give up a 1st or 2nd to trade for him... maybe a 3rd/4th? i dunno. not enough imo if you're DAL

No way I'd trade him for just a 3rd or 4th.

He's too good, but he plays G and will be 33. I don't know how they decide what fair market value is for him. He's worth at least a 1st and something else based on how good he is, but position and age might make his value less. And I wouldnt trade him for less.

Sky's the limit for this kid. He should have gotten even more national praise for the rookie year he had. Spent all offseason and training camp working at LG, then had a really, really solid year at LT with less than a week to prepare for the regular season.

According to Turd Fisher, they are negotiating a long term deal with Steele now.

Pertaining to Zack. Long-term contracts to players (especially superstars) only ever benefit the team. If you don't perform, the team simply cuts you. However, if you outperform your contract, you will become one of the most underpaid players towards the end of it.

That's not entirely true. Sometimes the player's cap hit prevents teams from making that maneuver, forcing them to renegotiate a more cap friendly deal and kicking the can down the curb.

In the case of Martin, he wanted and deserved a new deal in 2018. They made him the highest paid G in the league.

Like I said before, do players really believe that every time another player somewhere signs a market re-set contract that they themselves should get a new deal? If they truly believe that and want that, then they should go to one yr contracts. Have a blow it out of water yr, get paid way more based on that next yr.

But everyone knows they don't want that. They want long term deals with huge upfront cash amounts.

He doesn't have much of a leg. He;'s bounced around a lot (5 teams since 2018)

While he's only missed 5 career PAT's (which is nice) he's only a career 81% kicker on FG's and from 40+ he's at barely 68% He only has 5 touchbacks on kickoffs for his career. (For comparison purposed, Maher had 78 last yr alone)
