Cowboys 2023 Offseason Thread

May as well lay it out there to our 6 regular posters to decide. Do we want to use this thread to discuss the draft for the next 3 days or should we use the 2023 NFL Draft Thread and maybe we move it temporarily.

These are important decisions. Think through it carefully.

i don't like moving threads... i have this fear that its going to fuck up the redirect if it moves multiple times... granted i dont know shit about it, but i'm a big believer in murphy's law and all that

i was looking around and last year everyone posted in the NFL Draft thread that was already established

then once all the picks were made, a new thread was created in the main Dallas Cowboys Forum

Mazi Smith is a nice pick. I was hoping for either OL or DL for our first pick and it happened. Hopefully we can fill the left guard spot in the second round. Plenty of good tight ends for later rounds if we even need one. Wouldn’t mind a good outside linebacker. To me the left guard hole is glaring. If we have a chance to get Avila or Torrance we need to jump on it. I know these are not sexy picks but the game is won or lost in the trenches.

Draft as a whole looks to be in the "C" area to me. I think Mazi will be a solid to good pro. Schoon was drafted because his RAS score is high and is considered a complete "Y" tight end. He should be a proficient blocker since Harbaugh emphasizes the run. The down side will be 25 when the season starts and has never been overly productive at UM. Overshown adds spped and Fehoko toughness to the D. The UNC O lineman only managed 12 reps on the bench at the combine so he doesnt look ready. It seamed like they were bending over backwards to make Quinn happy.

Anyway the position that needed upgrading QB wasnt but the reality is I am not sure there is even one QB in this draft I really like. Next year is a whole other story but they are going to have to be god awful to get one of em.

Yeah, he'll be more predictable and easier to minimize. Let's neuter his secret sauce and make him generic.

Eh. Great DE's & pass rushers are great DE's and pass rushers regardless of how "predictable" they are.

Parsons' pass rush skill is what makes him unique and dominant, he was a liability at DE at times because teams starting running at him and wearing him down badly. At 240 he is too small, but 250-255 he can definitely hold up playing DE. He also wore down because he played such a large number of snaps between LB and DE. If they move him to DE he'll get a few more snaps on the sideline when they rotate up front.

I'm sure they will keep moving him around the front to maximize his matchups, but the guy is a freak player who can probably net 15-20 sacks per season if he plays DE fulltime and can be physical enough to hold up v the run.

Two biggest name kickers available today:

Mason Crosby and Robbie Gould.

Crosby of course played for McCarthy for all of his career and McCarthy stuck with him after a couple sub par seasons earlier in his career. He's also slightly younger than Gould. Last yr Crosby was 25/29 on FG's and 37/39 PATs. Crosby has also never missed a FG at AT&T stadium. He's supposedly considering retirement and the Packers said they have not closed the door on him returning there, but they did draft a PK last weekend.

Gould was 27/32 on FG's last yr and 50/51 on PATs. His preference (reportedly) is to kick for the Bears again, and the Niners drafted Jake Moody in the 3rd rd last weekend.

Both kickers have been excellent in the playoffs. Gould has NEVER missed a postseason kick (field goal or PAT) in 16 career games. (29/29 FG's, 39/39 PATs) Crosby is 31/35 FG's and 70/70 PATs.
