Sparano is a lock to be canned, possibly any day now. Not sure if the Cowboys would add him immediately or not, but its certainly possible. Garrett let it be known that he has tremendous respect for Sparano's coaching ability during the preseason (the week we played Miami) and has worked with him, so the move to add him here makes sense.

The other is Norv Turner. Turner is a favorite of the Chargers GM, but it seems unlikely he could survive another mediocre season. Turner and Garrett have a long term relationship obviously and run similar systems, but Turner is one of the best play callers and QB coaches ever. He'd be a great add to the staff.

Its possible both could be added.

Was just thinking about Norv as OC after watching last night's game.

I still want Paul Chryst but we may have to fend off college head coaching offers to get him.

Chryst is a big believer in a tough, physical running game and we need that. Norv, recently, has been as pass happy as Garrett is.

I think if we are still stuck with garrett next year sporano will be here for sure. John garrett said after he went to interview to be the oc there this spring that tony, john and jason all view football the same way and worked well together in 07.

Norv would be a dream come true. our skill players with norv and sporano coaching the line......garrett couldnt even get in the way to screw up.

however, I dont see norv ever working for jerry again and I am not sure sporano wouldnt get a similar type job somewhere else. Plus tony may see it as stepping on the garrett brothers toes.

I just had this conversation yesterday with chocolate lab. He made a good point if you get quality people like that what is the point of Jason garrett. I have no idea in that scenario.

I know some people are in love with Garrett and think he can do no wrong while there are many others who think he is a boring robot. I think he could be a great Head Coach but he absolutely has to give up playcalling. He just doesn't seem to ever have a good flow going. Our goal line playcalling is awful. He has some great leadership qualities but he is still the same playcaller who has been called out by opposing players and TV broadcasters for years. Too predicatable and doesn't take advantage of favorable mismatches.

I honestly think Jason Garrett has the mentality to be a great HEAD coach, far better than a coordinator.

He is the opposite of people like Dave Campo.

besides playcalling there is nothing different about this team from last year. We had good bounces against sf/washington go our way....last year we had the bounces go against us in the chi/tenn games.

That is pretty much the difference in the two seasons imo. The defense lost its confidence and wade stubbornly called the same few blitzes over and over...romo gets hurt and the rest of the team goes in the tank.

this year was to be different. So far it looks like nothing is different to me, I think the HC has caused the qb to be almost emotionally disinterested after he takes the ball from him and then lays blame on him.

It looks to me like all the talk garrett does about details and approach is just that talk. he is either not capable of being the figurehead and calling plays or he is just not good at either.

Either way I think it is starting to show on the offense and its affecting the whole team. You cant keep firing people, but if you can recognize early enough that someone is simply not cut out for a job its ok to make another change. Obviously you cant replace him with dave campo.

I just think we need a real head coach, one who will have everyones attention and hire coordinators.

but this is all a waste of time he is not going anywhere so the best we can hope for is some new people to come in around him and help.

Josh lewin claimed in august that Norv and Jason talk on a near daily basis. So you never know, in the offseason maybe they could work something out. Norv with romo and these weapons would be fantastic.

Also, I'd love to see Garrett reach out to these people and make the hires. No more of Jerry assigning assistants to the Head Coach.

ironically I think the only one jerry has done that with is garrett himself. I think that is the only guy jerry hired.

Starting to feel like it also to me...

Jerry also assigned Campo to the previous staff.

This is the first time I heard this from what I remember he was interviewed and hired by Wade.

I can't remember any reporting about him being assigned by Jerry.

Then CL has no point then, because if you look around history of the best head coaches who had the most success, they always seem to surround themselves with the best assistants. Tom Landry had a superior coaching staff. Jimmy had a tremendous coaching staff with him when he was here. Bill Walsh had an excellent staff. Parcells had tremendous coaching staffs with him in NY (both teams) and New England. Don Shula always had great coaching staffs with him in Miami.

The assistants Garrett hired this time around were all his guys, people he wanted to hire. I dont see why that would change.

Wade had no previous connection to Campo. That hire as well as the Houck hire was all Jerry.

But that's not who he was wanting at the time.

Yeah he reportedly wanted Solari.

I think Garrett had alot mroe to do with Wade hiring Houck than Jones did though. Garrett had played on Houck coached teams, and Houck had extensive experience in Norv Turner/Ernie Zampese's system.

I think you're right. And that was part of the dysfunctional situation where we basically had Wade serving as DC and Garrett as OC who Jerry let hire his guys over the choices of the HC.

Outside of the Raiders this is the most dysfunctional team in the NFL without a doubt.

Even if Garrett gave Romo free-reign (no pun intended, Marc Colombo) he can't do shit behind this Oline. Even the promising Tyrone Smith got abused Sunday night. If anything is dysfunctional about the Cowboys, it's the offensive line IMO.

And we need more than just the Oline being retooled. We need a top 10 pass-rusher and another 1st down CB, among other things. So it's gonna be awhile to get to where we need to be.

I like Garrett's coaching approach, but his team is just way too lame.
