That word is what frustrates me about the Dallas Cowboys. It seems like role players are never given a real opportunity to start. Seems like the franchise is so set on having the highest paid players or the highest round picks given the posistion instead of having to earn it. Even if they arent the best player for the spot. But because they were given 20mil in a signing bonus or picked in the first round they get a sense of entitlement from the organization. Its infuriating. This is the thing i hate about the team i love. And sad to say this is why they probably wont win a championship until the organization decides to stop cuddling these "spoiled brats".

First name that comes to mind, Tashard Choice. I know a good amount of people dont like him. And its for stupid reasons. Because he had his first career fumble vs the Redskins on a pass Romo had no business throwing. And because he asked for a autograph after a game. Im not saying hes clearly better than Felix Jones but he's on his level, no matter how much you Jones fans want to think hes far superior to Choice. Jones has never shown up against a top defense, we've already seen Choice do it. Felix has has fumble and injury problems, Choice has 1 carrier fumble and is very reliable in terms of injuries. I just dont see why he has never been given the shot to compete for the starting spot.

Now on the flip side i cannot for the life of me see why Scandrick didnt replace Jenkins during last yr. Scandrick was above average all yr. Even if it was just to get Jenkins mind off of the bad season he was having and get back on track.

It started with Wade but Garrett didnt change much after he took over. This is something i'd love to see with this team. Just field the best 22 that give you the best chance to win no matter contract or draft status.

If Roy Williams wouldnt have gotten hurt i sincerely doubt we would've never known what Miles Austin could do in Dallas. If Ferguson wouldnt have gotten hurt I doubt we wouldve gotten to see how dominant Ratliff would be. Never wouldve found out Dallas had a gem waiting to play tackle in Doug Free.

I just dont see what this team is so scared of to let players earn their spot instead of just handing it to them with a fat signing bonus.

Well that comes from your fake GM, this sense of entitlement.

I don't know that I'd say Felix Jones has never stepped up against a good defense. I remember him making big plays against defenses like the Giants and Eagles. They're not scrub defenses.

He might have a good run or two. But im talking about in 08 when Dallas ran out of RBs and the offense was in its December slumber. And Choice tore the top 3 defenses in the nfl that yr up Pittsburgh, Giants, Ravens. Choice did it in the run and pass. I thought for sure he would be given atleast the chance to compete. But because Barber had 40 mil in a contract and Felix was the "juice" guy Choice was passed over. Now comes Murray who is basically a bigger Felix Jones straight line runner.

I just think if Choice was iven a legit chance to compete, he would be the starter. He's not the most talented RB in Dallas. But he by far gives the best effort when given the chance.

But I completely agree with the premise of this thread. We are way too quick to anoint players as teflon status.

And way too reluctant to play young players.

You can blame that on Wade Phillips if you want, but the real reason is the guy who hired him.

Its gonna be up to Coach Garrett to change that vet mindset that exist around VR that last year starters are this years starters(except QB)....

Garrett says the best will play, we will see.

When you draft backups and special teamers you are telling your starters that they don't have to fight for their jobs. Crap, how long has Hurd been on the roster as a useless WR? A good team will show him the door and bring on cheap FAs that will challenge the starters.

Choice doesn't have the talent that Jones has. The only thing he may have on Felix is better vision.

Garrett's emphasized competition this offseason.

Let's hope that's a direct dig at the unqualified GM above him and a real change in our approach.

But I can't get past the fact that Felix Jones was a 1st round draft pick who barely played his rookie year and that decision should have been Jason Garrett's.

Ill take that. Having talent is fine but unless you apply it, its worthless. Not having great vision as a rb is a big thing. I guess thats why we have a rb in Felix with homerun talent but rarely is seen. Cause he cant see the opening to hit it.

Yeah I totally disagree about Felix not having good field vision.

I think people need to accept the fact that he has been running behind one of the worst lines in all of football and still has managed to have a very respectable yards per carry average.

I don't think Tashard Choice has anything on him with the possible exception of durability.

Didn't they always say it was b/c of his blitz pickup was the reason for not more pt ?

No way...He blocks like MBIII and runs like Felix. Garrett is a big sham if he's on the bench or isn't given a chance.

I wonder how MBIII is gonna look playing short yardage back for the Eagles or Raiders next year...

1/4th of jones rushing yrds came on 16 plays(longest run in each game he played) 216 yrds. So that leaves 584 yrds in 169 carries which is a 3.4 yrd per carry average. And thats a more realistic view of Felix Jones season. Stats can always warp a view. But all you had to do was watch a Cowboys game to see that Jones has bad vision and 90% of the time makes bad cuts and picks the wrong hole.

Garrett or anybody else on this coaching staff doesnt seem to know what they want out of their runningbacks. So i expect more of the same from the Cowboys. Alot of passing yrds and minimal rushing.

Yeah. Don't do that. You can't take away the plays you don't want and keep the ones you do. You have to take the entire body of work.

If you take away all of Dez Bryant's big plays last year he's a pretty ordinary looking rookie.

Any back in the league would have a plethora of 1 and 2 yard runs behind this line.

IM not saying that Felix is bad. Im saying he's not really any better than choice to just deserve to be handed the starting spot. Open the spot up and let the best guy start is what im saying.
