It's unreasonable to expect any of these first bracket games to be all that competitive. It's the lowest seeds against the highest ones.
This is BS

First, it isnt mandated that the game be "competitive" but you could easily see none of these 4 teams that lost Friday and yesterday even belonged on the field with the other team. THAT'S the issue.

Clemson made at least somewhat of a game of it, but it was only because of a couple Texas fuckups and getting disinterested.

And it wasn't "the lowest seeds against the highest ones" either. The highest seeds didn't play. On another note, if those 9-12 teams are THIS uncompetitive against the 5-8 teams, it proves my point below that there's no way in hell 12 teams belong in this.

They picked the wrong 12 teams (which is par for the course for these fucking idiots, they do it every yr, even when there were only 4 to pick). South Carolina, Ole Miss and Alabama all had legit arguments to be there over Indiana and SMU, and probably over Clemson and Tennessee too. One of my dumbass friends tried to argue that none of those teams belonged because "they had 3 losses" but Clemson had 3 losses and just got beat at home by South Carolina a couple weeks ago.

What we saw yesterday was 100% proof that there really arn't 12 playoff worthy teams and that's almost assuredly going to be the case every year. I think they are moving to 16 in another year or so, which is going to make this even more laughable. 8 should be the absolute max, and even that might be a stretch.

College football was a product I didn't think was capable of being ruined, but they have successfully ruined it. Mega conferences, NIL, transfer portal and ridiculous playoff format have sucked almost all the awesome out of college football.

And yet ratings attendance and revenue continue to mushroom.

it's a shit product on the field and these 4 "playoff games" were the icing on the cake

As for your attendance comment, turn on any of these regular bowl games and get back to me on that...nobody goes and nobody cares...the TV ratings for them are also shit

Announced attendances for various bowl games so far. Again these were "announced" numbers, when you turned on shots of the games, the actual crowds were clearly nowhere near some of these numbers.

Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl, Tulane v Florida. 41,472 (game in Florida)
Scooters Coffee Frisco Bowl, Memphis v West Virgina. 12,022
Art of Sport LA Bowl, Cal v UNLV. 24,240 (game in California)
Boca Raton Bowl, James Madison v Western Kentucky. 15,808
Staff DNA Cure Bowl, Ohio v Jacksonville St. 10,518
IS4S Salute to Veterans Bowl, South Alabama v Western Michigan. 12,021

People can hardly contain their excitement.

All the pearl clutching.

I like the NIL because I like capitalism. The players generating billions in revenue through their labors need to be paid.

I like the transfer portal because one of the side effects is slowly, we're getting more parity in Division 1. Because annual powerhouses like Georgia are losing their depth, their second tier of blue chip players who haven't cracked the starting lineup just yet. They can leave and become a starter elsewhere. And they are. Also - players can follow their fired coach! That's gonna have the effect of fewer fired coaches over time.

A couple of guardrails I'd like to see though, include one year commitments - once you take the money you're ineligible for the portal for a year. And also a cap on what can be paid out. Maybe make it something like 16 million per team. So that the super rich schools don't just hoard talent by paying ridiculously, and the less well funded schools get a more even playing field.

I was talking power five schools and you know that, but even these low rank bowl games make money for the advertisers and networks. Or they wouldn't be still held every year. You can dig up any number of bowl games with small attendance numbers. Hell, D2 even has bowl games now. There's no problem with any of it. I like more football. Hell, I even got to watch the D2 national championship game yesterday and two FCS national semifinal games. We're living in the best of times for football. I even watched Dallas Highland Park get beat by Smithson Valley in the class 5A div 1 state title game! I was like a hog in a mudpit yesterday just rollin around and grunting, enjoying football! Even took in a couple of NFL games!

Speak for yourself!

I've been counting down the days for the Scooters Coffee Frisco Bowl and then I forgot to go because it was on a Tuesday!
